The Medusa was a rare heavy weapon found in Egypt during the 1st century BCE. Named after the mythical Medusa, a Gorgon which was slain by the legendary hero Perseus in Greek mythology.
The weapon ended up in the hands of the Medjay Bayek of Siwa after he helped Sminthos, a man of Cyrene, towards a better life.[1]
