Mani Mondragón
Mani Mondragón (born c. 1990s) is the older brother of Javier, and thus is also a descendant of the Master Templar Shay Cormac, his grandson Cudgel, the Tlaxcaltec warrior Chimalpopoca, and the Icelandic skald Thorvald Hjaltason.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Early life[edit | edit source]
During his youth, he and his family would have cookouts around a fire. Something which his brother, Javier, enjoyed. They'd wrap blankets around each other and watch the sun set.[1] At some point later, Mani also joined a gang, much to his mother's disapproval.[2]
Assault sentence[edit | edit source]
In 2015, Javier came out as homosexual to his family, to which Mani and their mother were the most supportive.[1] They began to feel closer as a family and things got better.[3] When a redneck called his newly-out brother a homophobic slur, Mani beat the man senseless while his brother looked on in equal parts graciousness, pride, and fear. Due to the incident, Mani was convicted of assault and sentenced, landing him in jail. The event severely impacted Javier, who began to push his friends away, especially Owen Meyers. After serving his sentence, Mani was released and the family held another cookout as a welcome home celebration.[1]
Life outside prison[edit | edit source]
In 2016, Owen and Javier met up for the first time in nearly a year to try Sebastian Monroe's Animus experience. Unsure of how to start a conversation, Owen asked Javier how his brother was, to which Javier revealed that Mani was out of prison and trying to stay out of trouble.[2] Javier later mentioned Mani's imprisonment in another conversation with Owen, trying to sympathize with him about how difficult incarceration was on families since Owen's father had also been imprisoned. Although Owen ended up angering Javier by saying his brother deserved to be in prison because he beat someone up, Javier later explained the circumstances that led up to it and in the process came out to Owen.[1]
When Javier and Owen attempted to sneak up the Templar Isaiah within Möngke Khan's tomb in Mongolia, Isiah used the Trident of Eden's fear prong on the two. Javier saw a vision of his parents crying as he came out to them and his brother beating him and calling him a homophobic slur.[4] Mani was surprised when his brother suddenly returned home after having spent an undefined time away in undisclosed locations. Although Javier did not want to talk about his experiences, Mani nor their parents would let up. Though they were all glad he was home, they were all worried about him, as there was still many places he could not openly be himself.[5]
