Ratonhnhaké:ton was born in 1756 in Mohawk Valley during the American Revolutionary War, though he often went by his adopted name of Connor. He was born to a Kanien'kehá:ka woman named Kaniehtí:io and a British Templar by the name of Haytham Kenway.

When Connor was a young child, his mother was killed during the burning of his village by George Washington's soldiers. Connor believed this was the Templars' doing, however, and a hatred for them began to brew. He later joined the Assassin Brotherhood to protect his village and prevent the Templars from returning.

During his hunt for the Templars, Connor came to know his Templar father Haytham, with whom he had a conflicted relationship. Connor took part in the American Revolution, though unwittingly, and eventually came across a Piece of Eden. He assisted in rebuilding the Colonial Assassins in the newly formed United States of America, and aided in the expansion of the Assassin network.
