Database: Porta Aurelia

This gate of the Mura Aureliane resides on the summit of the Janiculum and was the starting point of the Via Aurelia. Renamed Porta San Pancrazio after Pope Urban VIII remodelled it in the 17th century, the Via Aurelia served as Rome's connection to France during the Republic and Middle Ages and therefore was extremely important for trade.
