Following the Battle of Forli, Ezio Auditore da Firenze attempted to retrieve the Apple of Eden from the clutches of Checco Orsi, a loan shark hired by Rodrigo Borgia. Although Ezio assinated Checco, his victim managed to stab him in the gut with his dying breath. As Ezio slipped from unconsciousness, he saw a hooded monk steal the Apple. Critically ill and dangerously close to death, Ezio was recovered by Caterina Sforza men and brought to her at the Palazzo Comunale.
Caterina nursed the wounded Assassin in the days that followed, until he was well enough to continue his journey.
