The Collector was a Messaran merchant living in Gortyn during the 5th century BCE.

Biography

An acquaintance of the adventurer Nikios, the Collector was known to have accompanied him, Swordfish, and others into the labyrinth beneath Knossos Palace, looking for treasure. However, the Collector and the others soon fled the labyrinth, with the exception of Nikios, who stayed behind and became a victim of the Minotaur. The Collector and the other members of the expedition agreed to never talk about the incident to Nikios' orphaned son, Ardos, and eventually went their separate ways.

After the ordeal at Knossos Palace, the Collector kept Theseus' Breastplate that he and the others had brought with them to the labyrinth, believing it would protect them from the Minotaur. He later sold it to the military personnel of Daidalos Fort. During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra, on Ardos' advice, sought out the Collector and his former companions to uncover the truth about Nikios' fate. Meeting him in Gortyn, Kassandra convinced the Collector to tell her about his role in the expedition to the labyrinth and the whereabouts of Theseus' Breastplate.
