Andvaranaut (Old Norse: "Andvari's Gift") was a cursed ring from Norse mythology that was first owned by the dwarf Andvari. It granted the wearer the ability to find gold anywhere, but after Loki stole it, Andvari cursed the ring to bring destruction to the ringbearer. The Norse hero Sigurd famously carried it for a time.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In the 870s, Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan found Andvaranaut in Northumbria after following a rabbit which a Norseman claimed was a reincarnation of Loki.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The ring's image icon in the Trade Goods menu for the 2020 video game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla was later reused and titled as simply a "Gold Ring" in the 2023 game Assassin's Creed: Mirage.
