878 AD is an interactive experience developed as a collaborative partnership between the Hampshire Cultural Trust and Ubisoft using Discovery Tour: Viking Age for visualization. It debuted in November 2022, in Hampshire.

Publisher's summary[edit | edit source]

The year is 878. The future of the kingdom of Wessex hangs in the balance; Winchester anxiously awaits the outcome of the Battle of Edington.[1]

Details[edit | edit source]

The 878 AD attraction takes place in the upper floor of The Brooks Shopping Centre. It aims to provide visitors with historical insights into 9th century Winchester through live performance, immersive storytelling, innovative interpretation, contemporary Anglo-Saxon objects from the Hampshire Cultural Trust's collections, and various other interactive elements.[2] Once visitors have experienced the initial attraction, they can learn more via the mobile augmented reality app, 878 AD: Winchester Revealed developed by Sugar Creative. The augmented reality app can be used on many key historical landmarks throughout Winchester.[2]
