Église Saint-Laurent
Église Saint-Laurent was a Catholic church established in Grenoble, France. It was built atop the remains of a Gallo-Roman necropolis, including the 6th century Crypte Saint-Oyand.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In May 1519, members of the local chapter of the Assassins visited Église Saint-Laurent as part of their search for the clues to the havens Leonardo da Vinci hid in the city.[2] Having been tasked with winning over the trust of Sir Pierre Taillard, chevalier de Bayard, the Assassins pieced together Bayard's coat of arms thanks to hints collected throughout Grenoble. At the church, they located a secret mechanism inside a panel in a wall under a discreet niche.[3] Reconstructing the coat of arms in the mechanism, they unlocked a door leading down[4] into the crypts, where they would encounter Bayard.[5]
