Gods or Creed

Gods or Creed was a visual representation of one of Bayek's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2017 through the Portable Animus HR-8.[2]

Description[edit | edit source]

Trapped in an eternity where the sole god Aten reigns, a man struggles to remember other deities from the Egyptian pantheon.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Within the Akhenaten's simulated afterlife of Aten, Bayek discovered an old man imprisoned in the Chambers of Reflection, put there for not conforming to the sole-god law.

  • Khui: Wash the scales from my eyes! Do not take them, they are my sole comfort.

Bayek released the man.

  • Khui: Have the shrouded ones sent you to me?
  • Bayek: What happened to you, neb (sir)?
  • Khui: I grieve for the true gods. This is my crime.

Bayek, taking pity on the man, carried him to safety, to his house south of the Chambers of Reflection.

  • Khui: Are you the Lord of Thebes...?
  • Bayek: I will return you home.
  • Khui: Home? It lies south-west of the bridge, but my hearth is dark with the lioness fled.
  • Bayek: Why were you imprisoned, neb (sir)?
  • Khui: Titans stand upon the shoulders of men. I speak of things they have forgotten. A black beaked ibis, a cawing hawk...
  • Bayek: Some memory haunts you.
  • Khui: The quick claws of the cat...The sun sears my eyes. It should not blaze so.
  • Bayek: Hush, old man you are nearly home.
Bayek at Khui's house

Arriving at the old man's house, Bayek set him down.

  • Bayek: What is eluding you, neb (sir)?
  • Khui: Who do you honor? Your family, your gods?
  • Bayek: I still honor the gods.
Khui telling Bayek about his woes
  • Khui: Then you are blessed. Each moment they fade a little further into shadow. Only in the inky hours do they come. Tenebrous, hidden, but they whisper as I sleep.
  • Bayek: They send you dreams? What do they say?
  • Khui: The chaos waters swallowed two. The blue hawk lies with the forgotten treasures, the black cat gasps for air with the old idols. The green Ibis, flaps his great wings but he cannot escape the jaws of the bloodless titan.
  • Bayek: I will help you remember.
  • Khui: In a state of ruin my mind remembers, returning to another time, the time of the gods.

Bayek departed the house and recovered the idols of Horus, Bastet, and Thoth.

  • Bayek: Now I can restore the gods to Khui.

  • Bayek: The Akhenaten heretic still walks.

  • Bayek: I hope these likenesses of the gods soothe Khui.

Bayek returning the idols to Khui

Bayek returned to Khui with the idols in hand. After handing him the last idol, Khui took the idol and placed it together with the rest.

  • Khui: Yes! I remember him, lord of the hidden sun, Amun-Ra!

The old man was then engulfed in a blinding light.

  • Khui: You think you betray your past, Bayek?
The apparition, in the form of Bayek, spoke to the Hidden One

The light faded as Khui transformed into an apparition of Amun-Ra himself, in the form of Bayek.

  • Bayek: This path you walk now, the tenets you live by, they are within us all. We too value the innocent, we too long for peace. If you desire peace, Bayek, accept it.

The apparition then vanished. Bayek inspected each of the statues, starting with the green ibis.

  • Bayek: There is an inscription here. Thoth, Revealer of the hidden, Soul of the Becoming, Scribe of the nine gods. As a boy the priests would make us pray to him for 'wise council'. Thoth seldom granted it to me.

He inspected the blue hawk.

  • Bayek: Horus, Lord of the Sky. (soft laugh) Khemu would beg and beg me to tell him the story of Set and Horus. How they turned themselves into hippopotamus to see who could remain under water the longest.

He inspected the black cat.

  • Bayek: The goddess Bastet. Hepzefa told me a story of a Persian King who turned the tide of battle. He ordered her image painted upon his soldiers' shields and our men refused to fight!

Outcome[edit | edit source]

Bayek helped recover small statues of several of the gods, including Amun-Ra, so that the old man could remember them.
