Burnt Brian's Pub

The Burnt Brian's Pub was a pub in Macau at the time when it was a colony under the Portuguese Empire. During the early 18th century, it became a favourite haunt of Dutch sailors based in Macau.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In February 1725, the British Assassin Edward Kenway visited the pub in order to locate John Young, a navigator for the Dutch East India Company who claimed to have discovered the lost city of the Khmer Empire, referred to by locals as belonging to Those Who Came Before. When Edward went to speak with the barkeeper, the latter was quick to notice the Assassin's Welsh accent and warned him to avoid the Dutch sailors in the pub, who would not take kindly to any Englishman due to the two countries being engaged in a proxy war.[1]
After Edward located John in the pub and approached him, the navigator mistakenly assumed that the Assassin had come to collect his gambling debts and called him out for being British. This drew the other Dutch sailors' attention and they attacked Edward, who defeated them after a quick brawl. Noticing that John had used the commotion to flee the pub, Edward left as well in order to pursue the navigator.[1]
