Galwyna was an Anglo-Saxon healer who lived in Lincolnscire in the 9th century, serving as an aide to the ealdorman Hundbeorht.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Little is known about her past, though Galwyna was inferred to be present as one of the guests at Hunwald's home, visiting Hunwald's father. In fact, she was present when the ealdorman was taken from his home.[1]
During the investigation of Bolingbroc Castle, the voice of a woman was heard as she was speaking with herself, proclaming to be both herself and the ealdorman. Upon discovery, Galwyna was found by the Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, as Galwyna appeared standing besides the decomposing ealdorman. Galwyna introduced herself and admitted to being Hundbeorht's caretaker, even after his death. While Eivor asked her why she has not told anyone, Galwyna stated that she was told to take care of the ealdorman in secret. When she asked who ordered this, Galwyna was struck in response. [2]
After Eivor found about how Hundbeorht's final moments were, Galwyna was left with the ealdorman's corpse. As Eivor left, Galwyna prayed for Hundbeorht's soul and promised him that he would be laid to rest next to his family line, the Kingdom of Lindsey.[2]
