Kingdom of Lindsey
The Kingdom of Lindsey (Med. Latin: Lindissi; lit.: Isle of the Lake), or Kingdom of Lindsay, was a minor Anglo-Saxon kingdom situated in what is now Lincolnshire in northeastern England. During the 7th century, the kingdom was absorbed into Northumbria and control over the region often alternate between the former and the Kingdom of Mercia.
The 9th century ealdorman Hundbeorht and his son Hunwald were the last known descendants of the kings of Lindsey.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
For the list of rulers named, Woden through Aldfrith (possibly a contemporary of Offa of Mercia but sometimes dated to a century earlier) are drawn from genealogies given in the Anglian collection manuscripts V and C. Notably omitted from that list are Winta, placed between Woden and Critta, and Woden's own ancestry, Frealaf, Friothulf, Finn, Godwulf, and with Geat (often said to be Odin or his son) as the progenitor. Other recorded rulers of Lindsey and Lincoln mentioned in other sources are Blecca, called a praefectus civitatis by St Paulinus of York in 629 and tentatively place between Bubba and Beda, and Hereberht, an ealdorman stated in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle to have been killed by Danes in 838.
