Pirates of Nightmares

Pirates of Nightmares was a video game being developed by Abstergo Entertainment and Ubisoft in late 2013, which utilized the genetic memories of the pirate Edward Kenway. Like Abstergo's previous game, Liberation, the content of the final product was severely censored and modified to remove certain facts, such as any mention of the protagonist's alliance with the Assassins, or the Observatory.[1]
By 2014, development of Pirates of Nightmares was seemingly scrapped, with Abstergo instead producing another video game based on Edward's memories, Devils of the Caribbean, which was released on Helix.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Pirates of Nightmares is the in-universe counterpart to the real-world video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag released by Ubisoft.
In Assassin's Creed: Unity, the Helix virtual experience starring Edward is titled Devils of the Caribbean, which is the name of a film also based on Edward's memories produced by Abstergo Entertainment and released in the summer of 2014. It is unknown if Devils is intended to be the finalized version of Pirates of Nightmares with a changed title, or a different product altogether.
