Mount Miwa

Mount Miwa is a mountain located west of Uda Matsuyama Castle in Yamato, Japan.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki member and samurai Yasuke visited the mountain after receiving a note from his mentor Kamiizumi Nobutsuna to find his former students to learn at their steads. There, he saw and introduced himself to Yagyū Munetoshi, who refused him instantly. Munetoshi explained that he does not wish to be a stepping stone, but Yasuke explained that he wished to combat and learn his techniques with the katana. Reluctant, Munetoshi agreed and they began to spar. Ultimately, Yasuke ultimately bested the master but Munetoshi explained that he failed his son by not saving him despite his heart being behind his sword.[1]

Yasuke responded that he was at his lowest after Oda Nobunaga's death but that his league lifted him up, to which he offered Munetoshi a place. Agreeing, Munetoshi thanked the samurai and gave him an amulet Rat Tail Finisher before leaving for the homestead as a scout.[1] At some point, Yasuke and fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe climbed atop the mountain and viewed the province below them.[2]
