Leroux (died 1790s) was the warden of a prison situated in eastern La Bièvre, Paris, during the 18th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Leroux worked at a local prison alongside his deputy warden Hugo Soulière during the French Revolution. While in charge, Leroux garnered a substantial gambling debt to the local gang, Les Marcheurs Morts, but made a deal to release some gang members to cover his debt. The warden also requested to remove Hugo, noting the latter's incompetence at his job and hostility towards him.[1]

Walking home one night, Leroux was followed and killed by Hugo, who was equipped with a weapon custom-made for the Les Marcheurs Morts. After dumping his body in a tannery, Hugo cut off the warden's head and displayed it on a pike at the prison. Realizing all the issues Leroux had, Hugo planned to frame the gang for his crime. However, the French Assassin Arno Dorian discovered Leroux's body and investigated the matter. He rightfully accused Hugo as the culprit and took the deputy warden to jail.[1]
