Lens mining company
The Lens Mining Company (French: Compagnie des mines de Lens) was the company responsible for the extraction of coal in the Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin of Northern France. It was established in 1852 and operated in the city of Lens until it was nationalized in 1946,[1] with its main building being later transformed into the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Artois. Besides mining, the company also operated with construction, building not only the housing estates for its employees, but also many amenities in the city such as a school, a clinic and a church.[2]
At some point, the company closed operations at the many mines, including Lens mining site number 9, transferring the workers into the construction of the Bollaert-Delelis stadium with assistance from Abstergo Industries, who used such operations as a cover for their investigations on a lost Templar treasure in the region. Unbeknownst to both companies, miner Henri Mulio had already located and hidden the treasure by then,[2] which would only be recovered by his great-grandson[3] Simon Mulio in the 2020s.[2]
