Kingdom

The Kingdom was a location rendered by the Animus, representing the Levantine countryside during the 12th century. The Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad traveled from Masyaf across the Kingdom to Acre, Jerusalem, Damascus, and Arsuf. The Kingdom was made up largely of open plains and mountains, and contained numerous small villages and encampments. Twelve notable watchtowers were scattered across the landscape.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

During the Third Crusade, the Kingdom was a contested territory between the Crusader forces, based in Acre, and the Saracen garrisons at Damascus and Jerusalem. The western part of the Kingdom was actively militarized by King Richard I of England, while the eastern part fell under the control of Saladin and the Saracen army. Both sides had fortified their positions, and actively patrolled the area.[1]

During this time, both the Assassins and the Knights Templar had a notable presence in the Kingdom as well. Assassin guards were stationed throughout the mountain pass leading to Masyaf, while a number of Templar Knights were posted throughout the Kingdom's landscape.[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The achievement "Keeper of the Lions Passant" can be earned by collecting 100 King Richard flags found throughout the Kingdom.
  • A minor easter egg can be found in the Kingdom. One Assassin outside Masyaf would glow red when viewed using the Eagle Vision, as he was originally intended to be Jamal, the traitor who opened the gates for the Templars alongside Masun during the Defense of Masyaf.
  • If Altaïr were to run into a group of Crusaders while being pursued by a group of Saracens, or vice versa, the two factions would unite to bring down the Assassin. However, if Altaïr was killed, the two factions would start fighting again.
  • The western parts are mountainous and feature Mediterranean cypress trees, likely representing the nature of Lebanon or northern Israel. The eastern parts are more arid and feature palms, possibly representing Syria. The large body of water in the middle might be representing the Sea of Galilee.
