Leila Marino

Leila Marino (died 2007) was an employee of Abstergo Industries until her suspicious death. Supposedly a suicide, the circumstances surrounding her were unknown to all but a few, and the coroner's report into her death was declared "proprietary information" by Abstergo.

Biography

Career and death

At some point prior to 2007, Leila became close friends with Lucy Stillman and became employed at Abstergo Industries, specifically at their Rome facility. In September 2007, Leila died under mysterious circumstances.

Legacy

In September 2012, five years after Marino's death, Dr. Warren Vidic used her fate as a psychological threat against Lucy Stillman, warning her to follow orders unless she wanted to "wind up like Leila". Prompted by this, Stillman initially contacted Nancy Nilop to enquire about the death of her friend, but Nilop refused to discuss the circumstances regarding Marino's departure from the company.

After Stillman challenged the "proprietary" status of the coroner's report, Nilop terminated the exchange by forwarding the correspondence to CEO Alan Rikkin and Vidic. The only explanation Stillman eventually received from Vidic was that Marino had committed suicide due to a relationship with an individual named Neumann, with Vidic crudely warning her against the risks of engaging in workplace relationships.

Lucy's persistent inquiries also drew the attention of Rikkin, who pressured Vidic to "deal with" Lucy's interest in the matter. Lucy's email correspondence was later acquired and compiled by the hacker group Initiates, and uploaded onto their private network.
