The Assassin's Creed (comic) is a 16-page graphic novel that was included in the limited edition of Assassin's Creed, and showed two side-stories of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Desmond Miles. The novel was also distributed to EB Games store managers in 2007 to promote the game. The story serves as a prelude to the first Assassin's Creed game, and introduces the game's two main protagonists.

Story

"I track these men down, so I might know the truth."
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad explaining his life as an Assassin

The story of the novel is laid out with the narration of both Assassins, with their own stories running parallel to each other. It begun with Desmond Miles and his escape from the Abstergo Industries facility in the year 2012, until later on when he interacted with the Animus and experiences a memory of Altaïr from the year 1191. Altaïr was tasked with performing multiple assassinations of Templar knights within the city of Acre.

Both sides of the narrators' stories are synched with each other, with the same message being portrayed in two different time contexts. Desmond introduced himself first in the beginning of the novel by explaining who he is and what has happened to him. He described himself as being prisoner, and that he did not know what these men wanted or why they abducted him. Desmond then later synchronized with Altaïr's memories and the latter explained himself as being a hunter, and that he hunted these men to learn who had leads them and what they plan. This created a link between the two Assassins, with both of them having explained who they are, and what they do. Towards the end of the story they both re-introduced themselves as being Assassins, and that that is their life.

During Desmond's introduction you see him move through the outside of the complex, and avoid Abstergo security guards who were apparently hunting him. He traveled silently through the vents of the facility, and was almost caught by one particular guard who was suspicious of noises heard in the vents, but later dismissed it as "nothing". Desmond was then seen crouched in an opening in the vent, directly behind the guard, who responded to concerns from his colleague, and stated that his sector was clear. Desmond then sneaked behind the board of Abstergo and entered a large room that contained the Animus. He stepped up to it and laid his hand on the device, which glowed powerfully in response. Desmond was then transported into his subconscious when he experienced the Animus' recreation of Altaïr's assassination memory.

Desmond viewed Altaïr's assassination memory in which he walked through the streets of Acre, entered a narrow alleyway and then assassinated a guard before he scaled a nearby wall. The next scene depicted multiple guards who were eyeing the city streets, with Altaïr seen free-running across rooftops in the background.

He leapt across the side of a building, and was spotted by a rooftop archer. Just as the guard cried out in alert, Altaïr stabbed and pulled him off the ledge, and the guard fell to the ground below, which attracted the attention of numerous other guards.

Altaïr responded instantly and jumped down onto the back of a guard, which instantly killed him when Altaïr slammed the guard's head into the ground. The story then flashed back to the future, where the board members discovered Desmond laying down in the Animus. Desmond sprung to his feet and escaped the Animus room being chased by Abstergo officials. The story then flashed back to the past where Altaïr was engaged in a battle with Templar guards, and was fighting them back. Then, the memory was desynchronized and lastly showed Altaïr retract his hidden blade, with the guards laid dead at his feet, and Desmond cornered by the board members, poised, and ready to fight.

  • Radio Voice: Sector 8 -Check-
  • Radio Voice 2: ...Clear...
  • Radio Voice: ...Sector 9??? Sector 9...Do you copy?
  • Guard: Sector 9, Clear..

A loud noise is heard in the vents, which alerts the guard, but becomes quieter.

  • Guard: Nothing...
  • Radio Voice: Sector 9-13, Everything's alright?
  • Guard: Yeah...It's all clear!
  • Radio Voice: Roger that!
  • Guard: Need maintenance to fix these damn vents!

Desmond opens the door to the room that contains the Animus.

  • Desmond: ...why they brought me to this place.

The door closes loudly behind Desmond, who touches the Animus, and reacts as the Animus glows powerfully in response to Desmond's touch. The Animus then transports Desmond's mind into it's projection of his ancestor's memory.

Altaïr silently steps up behind the knight, and assassinates him.

  • Archer: AARRHH! ('Altaïr stabs and pulls the archer off a ledge)

The dead archer attracts the attention of guards down below, and Altaïr responds by leaping down and killing one of the guards by slamming his head into the ground.

Trivia

  • The maneuver Altaïr performs (stabbing and pulling down a rooftop guard off a ledge in Acre) is very similar to how, in Assassin's Creed II, Ezio is able to pull guards down from high spots after assassinating them.
  • In the graphic novel, Altaïr carries no weapons at all but the hidden blade.
  • The outside of the Abstergo Laboratory can be seen in the graphic novel.
  • The artwork and storyboard of the modern era, with Desmond narrating, was created by Thierry Doizon, whereas the artwork and storyboard of the Crusades time period, with Altaïr narrating, was created by David Levy.
