William de la Pole, 1st Duke of Suffolk (16 October 1396 – 2 May 1450) was an English noble and a military commander during the Hundred Years' War.

Biography

On 22 March 1429, Jeanne d'Arc dictated a letter ordering many English leaders, including the Duke of Suffolk and King Henry VI, to surrender to her by the will of God.[1] By June of the same year, William was the commander responsible for holding on to the city of Jargeau, but the English forces were not a match for the French, and he surrendered, though his screams were lost in the chaos.[2]
