Stikla

Stikla was the wife of Norse fisherman Skegi who, along with her husband, founded a fishing village on the coast of Lincolnshire, England during the 9th century.
In the 870s, Stikla and her husband, along with the villagers were forced out of their village after it had been taken over by a band of bandits who desired to claim the rich supply of fish for themselves. Both Stikla and Skegi watched the village on a cliff from afar, left helpless to reclaim the village. Some time later, the couple was visited by the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir, who lent her assistance to help Skegi and Stikla eliminate the bandits and reclaim the village for the fishermen.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The name Stikla is Old Norse in origin and is derived from the word Stiklarstaðir, meaning "to jump". It was notably the name of a shieldmaiden who fought with the legendary shieldmaiden Rusla in the Battle of Clontarf.
