Polemarchus was an Athenian man who allied with Thrasybulus against the reign of the Thirty Tyrants.

Biography

Polemarchus worked with the Nightjar and his band of thieves in order to sell weapons to Thrasybulus in Boeotia. This plan was eventually discovered by Critias, the leader of the Thirty Tyrants and he was beaten by Bakchos while a hoplite searched for any evidence in his cart. When a pouch of coins from Boeotia was discovered, Critias ordered his summary execution, but Theramenes intervened, convincing Critias he deserved a fair trial. Critias had Bakchos drag Polemarchus away,[1] amd he was later killed.[2]

A year later, in 403 BCE, after the Battle of Munychia, his death was mentioned by Thrasybulus in a speech.[2]
