Marguerite Monvoisin was the daughter of Catherine Monvoisin, who was better known as the poisoner "La Voisin."

Biography

As an assistant to her mother Catherine Monvoisin, also known as La Voisin, Marguerite aided her mother in her dealings, especially in the conspiracy, the The Affair of the Poisons, along with Madame de Montespan to kill King Louis XIV. However, the authorities found out about the plan, arrested Catherine as the sole conspirator, and then executed her at Place de Grève. Carrying on their tradition, Marguerite carried on with the family business.[1]

Legacy

After the affair, Marguerite had two daughters, Amélie Monvoisin and Valérie Monvoisin. Before her death, Marguerite dictated in a document that her fortune was to be passed down to the eldest daughter or female in relation. As Valérie was the eldest child, who was in contention about another fortune, Amélie was given the items of her mother's business. Yet, Amélie wanted her independence from her sister. During the French Revolution, Amélie poisoned Valérie with same family recipe and tried to frame family friend Georges Villiers-Segonzac. However, French Assassin Arno Dorian uncovered the truth and Amélie was rightfully imprisoned.[2]
