Madrid is the largest and capital city of Spain.

History

In the late 15th century, the city was home to Cristoval de Merlo, a treasurer for the Spanish Inquisition. In 1489, Cristoval was given to painting belonging to Leonardo da Vinci by the Inquisition captain Diego de Burgos. Cristoval kept the painting deep underground beneath the slums in the city for safekeeping. However, the Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins managed to infiltrate the hideout, disarm the traps installed and recover the painting.[1]

In 1511, Grand Inquisitor Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, the successor of Tomás de Torquemada, had also been persecuting Spanish Assassins for crimes unrelated to their activities. Ottoman Assassins sent from Constantinople by Ezio Auditore da Firenze sought out the culprits in the city and killed them.[2]

The Ottoman Assassins also aided in taking over Madrid from Templar control, and restored and expanded the city, also installing several Assassin Dens.

Centuries later in 2016, Abstergo Industries' Abstergo Foundation established premises within the city.[3][4]
