Lough Gara

Lough Gara is a lake in eastern Connacht, Ireland.

History

In the late 9th century, the Viking jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan traveled to Lough Gara, after following a clue at Port Auley about her target, a Child of Danu, "The Wren." Upon her investigation of the lake, Eivor found a note near a ritual stone and it detailed instructions, from "The Oak" to The Wren, to corrupt the people of Rathcroghan and instigate chaos. From this clue, Eivor discovered The Wren's identity to be the poet, Lady Niamh, and her location and soon left to find her.[1]

Behind the scenes

Originally called "Loch Techet," the name change happened when the O'Garas became rulers of the surrounding area.
