Khidmah Tokens

Khidmah Tokens or Favor Tokens were a form of underground currency that circulated around Baghdad in the 9th century. They were used to render payment for special services from various classes of people, among them merchants, scholars, and mercenaries.[1]

Sometimes these services were illicit acts that subverted state authority and abetted criminal activity. For instance, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq used these tokens to enlist the assistance of locals while hunting down the Order of the Ancients. He would pay merchants to help him sneak in and out of restricted areas, musicians to distract guards with their performances, and mercenaries to create diversions by assaulting enemy positions. He would also bribe munadi to refrain announcing his wanted status. These tokens he earned from completing various escort, rescue, or assassination contracts on behalf of the brotherhood, but at other times, he simply pickpocketed them from civilians of the city.[1]

Behind the scenes

Khidmah Tokens are a form of currency unique to Assassin's Creed: Mirage (2023). Distinct from the regular dirham currency, they are required to hire the help of three different gameplay groups: Merchants, Scholars, and Rebels. Likewise, the Tokens are divided into three types corresponding to these three groups: Merchant Tokens, Scholar Tokens, and Power Tokens. Each have their own unique functions that assist in the game's social stealth, open unique opportunities in assassination missions, and facilitate progression in the world.

  • Merchant Tokens are used to get discounts with traders at their shops, to open certain locked treasure chests, and to hire groups of merchants to serve as roaming blend groups for infiltrating restricted areas.
  • Scholar Tokens are used to pay street performers to distract guards and to purchase maps cartographers that identify treasures in the Round City.
  • Power Tokens are used to hire mercenaries to attack guards, to bribe munadi to remove notoriety, and to bribe guards in certain parts of the game.
