Isabel (died 1524),[1] better known as Colubra (Portuguese: Snake),[2] was a former Assassin turned enemy of the Brotherhood.[3]

Biography

As a young woman and Assassin, Isabel long had to deal with the disdain of others, both in society at large and within the Brotherhood itself.[4] At some point in her life, Isabel was captured by the Templars, wounded, and taken in a Venetian ship to the Khmer Empire, where her enemies sought the location of an artifact. Alongside Isabel, the Templars also held several other women in similar states of exhaustion and injuries. Saved by an unseen archer who managed to kill their captors, Isabel was freed from the Templars.[5]

Managing to locate the Templars had wished to force the women into locating, Isabel decided to use it to help the women that accompanied her, seeking to turn the fear, anguish and hatred they had accumulated into strength, self-confidence and love.[6] Colubra and her Furies operated out of many camps throughout the jungle,[7] besides also making use of a rear base north of the Mekong delta.[8]

At an open air market, Colubra decided to confront the second group of Assassins sent to stop her. Using the Apple of Eden to make it seem like she towered over others by several feet, she ambushed them, though they managed to defend themselves. Just as she should have collapsed from the combat, she hit her opponents with a shockwave and fled with her Furies while they were passed out,[9] retreating to her sanctuary further north.[10]

Some time later, she was confronted once again by the Assassins, this time in her hideout. There, she witnessed them attempting to seize the Apple before being hit by a shockwave and assaulted by the same terrifying visions of devastated landscapes, war and famine she had also been privy to.[1]

She took the artifact and addressed the group, declaring that they would not be able to destroy the Apple, but that she was ready to sacrifice herself to do so instead. As she made her way to the Isu temple, she was attacked by Sesha, who emerged from the ground and lunged at her. Working alongside her, the Assassins defeated the snake and allowed Colubra to enter the temple knowing that neither she nor the artifact would ever come out again.[1]
