Frode was a Norse navigator during the 9th century.

Biography

Initially agreed to join Thorsteinn Silvertongue and his wife Gunnhilda on their journey, he abandoned them when he got the chance to join jarl Guthrum's crew as a navigator, leaving the pair stranded in Nottfall.[1]

After Gunnhilda recruited a new crew and Thorsteinn recruited Bjorn as navigator, they set sail for England.[1] Frode eventually met with Bjorn in England, and suggested to jarl Guthrum he adds him to his felag.[2]

When Guthrum occupied Chepeham, Hamtunscire, Bjorn and Frode followed. Guthrum had since captured Brother Ealric, one of King Aelfred's advisors. When Guthrum and Ealric walked about town discussing matters, they found out all relics and food had been stolen from the church, even though Guthrum had ordered not to plunder Chepeham. Ealric investigated and learned Frode and Bjorn were responsible for the theft, informing Guthrum they were planning to slip out of Chepeham during the night and abandon him.[3]
