Feather

In Assassin's Creed, Feathers are used by Assassins such as Altaïr to prove that an assassination target is dead. By staining a feather with the blood of the slain, they prove their accomplishment. Assassins' Bureau leaders always gives the Assassin chosen for the slaying a feather, symbolizing that they are ready to perform the assassination. In the case of Altaïr, he must perform his own investigations, so the Leader decides whether or not his learnings are sufficient. In AC2 Petruccio asks you to collect some feathers for him, and you may collect feathers for the achievement "In memory of Petruccio" which grants you the Auditore Cape.
Among Assassins, a "feather on one's head" means a mark of death. For example, an Informant assassin in the Rich District of Damascus makes the remark "I hear there is a feather on Abul Nuqoud's head," implying that he is marked for assassination.
