"My only regret is losing to whatever you are. You reek of fading glory."
―Cola's final moments, after being killed by Eivor, 870s.[src]-[m]

Cola (died 870s), also known as Cniht-Scribe, was a Zealot of the Order of the Ancients who operated in England in the 9th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Nothing is known about Cola's early life. Despite his stout build, Cola presented himself as a tough opponent. As a combatant, Cola prefered to fight in close proximity, however he knew how to handle himself with a bow and arrow. His history as a quick-footed warrior caught the eyes of the Order and thus he was inducted into the Zealots. As part of his notoriety, Cola's motto went, "Blood speaks true." Within the Order, Cola also provided an emergency messenger service for the Order member, The Adze[1]

In his rounds, Cola patrolled the area around the Sudwella Monastery in northern Ledecestre as well along the rivers surrounding the regions of Ledecestrescire, Lincolnscire, and Eurviscire. It was during one such patrol that Cola was killed by the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir, an ally of the Hidden Ones. After his death, Eivor retrieved a clue from Cola's personal effects, which revealed the title of the Order member called The Adze.[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Like other Zealots, Cola had unique fighting methods and items in his weaponry. Upon Eivor's instigation, Cola was equipped with an bow and arrow, attacked with proximity incendiary devices, and packed rations to heal himself within battle.
  • For The Adze, Cola has the same clue as The Dart, whom Eivor assassinated along her journey.
