Sudwella Monastery

The Sudwella Monastery was a monastery in the north of Ledecestrescire, England. Prior to 873, the monastery was led by an abbess by the name of Editha, who eventually took her group nuns to flee the shire after King Burgred refused to surrender the kingdom to the Great Heathen Army.[1]

In the 870s, the monastery was raided by Eivor Varinsdottir and the Raven Clan, who looted the site of its raw materials and cargo to upgrade their settlement of Ravensthorpe.[2]
