Charles VII (22 February 1403 – 22 July 1461) was King of France from 1422 to 1461 during the Hundred Years' War, although his coronation wasn't until 1429.

Due to his mother, Queen Isabeau of Bavaria, being rumored to have lovers, his legitimacy to the throne became questioned, especially by the English and Burgundians. As the fourth in line to the throne, he never expected to become king and became insecure about it.

Biography

On 6 March 1429, Charles met Jeanne d'Arc and permitted a private audience with her. Jeanne proclaimed him the true heir to the throne. While giving her speech her radiance flared and an image of an "angel" appeared, placing a crown before Charles.[1]
