Blackbeard's Treasure
- Edward Kenway: Blackbeard's hidden his Treasure in a poxy Riddle.
[]
- Edward: That's a lot of Pirates for Somewhere that's meant to be secret. All this because of some paper I found in a dead Man's Hat. I hope I'm right to trust Thatch's Map.
[]
- Edward: Shite, Thatch. What have you started.
[]
- Edward: That's it. They've seen us now!
- Lucy Baldwin: You know what this looks like? A lot of Work for me at the end of the Day, that's what.
[]
- Edward: This is what happens when you tell Pirates there's Treasure.
- Abel Galvão: Just be glad there are no Spaniards in the Mix.
[]
- Edward: I'd almost prefer warring with the King's Navy to this.
[]
- Pirate 1: If the Loot is even Half of Blackbeard's Takings it's enough for all of us to live like Kings. But we have to hurry. With the Redcoats clearing out North Carolina and all, it won't be long afore they're down here as well.
[]
Search the Water
- Take the Diving Bell we picked up and search the Water at the front of the Cave.
Mind the Rope. It looks half rotted.
- QM
- Edward: They thought Blackbeard hid his Treasure under water.
[]
- Pirate 2: I heard tell that Blackbeard buried it here on his own. Left his Crew and rowed Ashore hisself.
- Pirate 3: That's all drunk Talk. Blackbeard were too canny to let his Treasure be found easy, no matter what Captain Hands' says.
- Pirate 2: You better hope it's True! If the Captain's wrong, we get nothing but Blisters and Thirst for all our Work.
[]
- Pirate 4: I told you using a Bell was madness! Now look what's happened.
- Pirate 5: Don't blame me! You were all for it 'til the cursed Line broke.
- Pirate 4: Our Lads are drowned for certain! This is Captain Hand's fault, dragging us out here just to die.
- Pirate 5: How in Hell did Blackbeard manage all this?
[]
- Pirate 6: I ain't going back in there. There's Sharks in them Tunnels that got our Lads! I can't fathom how Blackbeard ever got through by himself.
[]
- Pirate 7: Leave them Powder Barrels be. Hands left 'em where they are a Purpose, and don't want no one touching 'em.
- Pirate 8: Ah, he just couldn't carry them further with his gammy Leg. Look, no Harm will come of...
[]
- Pirate 9: Think, man. Where would you hide your Treasure if you was Blackbeard. Not out in the open, that's certain.
[]
- Pirate 10: A couple of Boys went ahead, and the Walls fell on 'em! I ain't going no further!
- Pirate 11: We can't just leave them, the Captain will have our Heads. Grab a couple of those Barrels, and we'll blast our way through.
- Pirate 10: Captain Hand's to blame! He's going to get us killed. It's plain Blackbeard's trapped the Cave.
- Pirate 11: Curse you for a Coward! You'll go in, or I'll gut you where you Stand!
- Pirate 10: Try it, Lobcock, and see where it gets you!
[]
- Israel Hands: I was fucking Sailing Master, not some Swab! So who did Blackbeard send to search out his Farming tools? Israel bloody Hands, that's who. And I went, bad Leg and all, like a whimpering Puppy. Well, my Day has come. I'll take my Reward and more from Blackbeard's own Treasure.
[]
- Hands: I served Blackbeard, and what did it get me? The miserable Bastard shot me in my knee just to prove he could. Then he gave all Reward to that prancing Dandy Kenway. Well, now I'll get my Share!
[]
- Hands: Edward Kenway. Now that's fucking poetry, that is. I'll settle every Debt owed me this Day.
- Edward: Israel Hands, Thatch's Sailing Master. I thought you Dead, or lost on account of your own Navigation.
- Hands: You were always the Favorite, thieving Reward due the rest of us. You're gonna pay for that, Kenway! And for all you ever done to me!
[]
- Edward: Ever the Green Eyed Minnow, Hands.
[]
- Edward: What the Devil...
- Jackdaw pirate: Is that it? That's Blackbeard's Treasure?
[]
- Blackbeard: Whoever's reading this Letter, you best hope I'm dead, or you'll answer for disturbing what I took uncommon Pains to secure. If, in point of Fact, I am dead, with Luck it's Edward Kenway who's doing the reading, having been lured by the smell of Gold. That being the Case, I'm sorry to disappoint you, Lad. You've not found Gold. But what you have found is Treasure of sorts. Here you have Everything you'll need to establish a Freehold, and grow it into the grand Proposition we always dreamed of. It's cost me a pretty Penny too, if I'm honest, so don't go squandering it. Do right by me in this, Kenway. The World needs a Place like Nassau, as much as it ever did.
- Edward: You soft headed old Coot.
- Blackbeard: Now don't worry, this weren't my whole Fortune. The rest is hid safe, and there ain't no Map to it. Blackbeard.
- Edward: Clever Bastard. All right, Thatch. I'll see to it.
[]
- Bernard Woodhouse: Captain Kenway. What is all this? Pieces of Eight, Shovels, Pitchforks, Plow. A farming Manual?
- Edward: A Gift of sorts, from Blackbeard's Treasure. And there's a lot more besides.
- Bernard: It's enough to secure the Prosperity of all the lives here. That's a strange kind of Treasure for a Pirate, is it not?
- Edward: Blackbeard weren't a usual Pirate. Use it well. Treasure or no, it weren't easy to find.
- Bernard: I'll make sure we do, Captain.
[]
Captain Stede Bonnet
- Bernard Woodhouse: Captain Kenway! A Letter's arrived at the Villa, addressed to you by way of Stede Bonnet. I've left it for you in the Trophy Room.
- Edward Kenway: Bonnet? It's been some time since I heard News of him. Thank you.
[]
- Stede Bonnet: My dear Friend, Edward. After a rather unfortunate Kerfuffle with the Governor's men, I currently enjoy the Hospitalities of a Charles-Towne Jail. It's all a bit bothersome, but I have Faith I'll be freed soon. Luckily, I'd already stashed some of my Takings in the Cabin of my Ship. I've sent it ahead to Mystery Island, but the Crew can be unpredictable without a Captain. I thought you might be amenable to checking in on them. There will be Reward for the Inconvenience of course, and I'll meet you there when I manage to extricate myself. It'll be just like old times! Signed Captain Stede Bonnet.
- Edward: Captain Stede Bonnet... now, that's unexpected.
[]
- Edward: Hidden Treasure and Trouble with the Authorities. You earn my Respect, Bonnet.
[]
- Edward: I hope Bonnet's taken real Booty, and isn't hoarding Sugar or the like.
[]
- Lucy Baldwin: I wonder what Bonnet's got up to, since he sailed off into yonder Sunset.
- Edward: He was quite the sight, wasn't he? From the Silk and Velvet of Barbados, to his own Captain's Helm.
- Lucy: Aye. The man wasn't cut from the same Cloth as the rest of Nassau, that's for sure.
- Edward: Is that a hint of Fondness I hear, Lucy?
- Lucy: I've no Love for the Posturing of Captains, present company excluded.
- Edward: Naturally.
- Lucy: Bonnet struck me as a different sort.
- Edward: His ways aren't as Rough as Thatch or Vane's. But I can't say if that's a good thing.
[]
- Edward: A Schooner's run aground. Could be Bonnet.
[]
- Edward: The Revenge. This is Bonnet's Tub.
[]
[]
- Rowland Sharp: Get your paws off that Hatch, you Skulk. Come on out and face me!
- Edward: Peace, man. My name's Edward Kenway, a friend of Bonnet's. I'm looking for his Crew, not a Fight.
- Sharp: Edward Kenway? As I live and breathe... come, join me by the Fire.
[]
- Sharp: "Flash Rogue with a Hangman's Grin." Major Bonnet told me to look out for you, Captain Kenway. Name's Rowland Sharp. I'm in charge of this here Crew. It's an honour to meet you, a real honour.
- Edward: The Pleasure's mine. Where's Major Bonnet now? What happened to his Ship?
- Sharp: After the Major sent us on ahead of him, there was a Mutiny. The Traitors filched the Key to the Major's Cabin belowdecks. We've been holding them off since, but they took the Provisions for themselves.
- Edward: When does Bonnet get here?
- Pirate 1: Mister Sharp! Trouble! The Mutineers are further down the Shore, gathering for an attack. All of them.
- Sharp: You'll have answers, Captain Kenway. But we need your help. This is our chance to get the Major's Key back.
- Edward: Lead on, Mister Sharp.
[]
- Pirate 2: Weeks of this miserable stalemate. Now we break it.
- Pirate 3: With Captain Edward Kenway's help, no less!
[]
- Sharp: These Mutineers are a savvy bunch. Have you your Wits about you?
- Edward: Wits, Steel, and Powder besides.
[]
- Sharp: Gird your Loins, lads. For the Major!
[]
- Ignatius Pell: Oi oi, look what washed up. Bonnet's Cabin Boys. I'm shitting my Drawers in Fear.
- Sharp: Pell, you Swab! He's a damned fine Captain. Too good for the likes of you.
- Pell: He's soft as his three Chins. You'd follow such a weakling?
- Sharp: Have you forgotten when he ate naught but Hardtack for weeks, so that we could have Meat? I'd follow this kind of Captain over you lot, that's certain.
- Pell: Then you can follow him straight to the Gallows, and Blubber and Grovel all the way!
[]
- Pell: That Dandy lorded over us like he was our better. He broke the Pirate Code!
- Sharp: What would you know of any Code? You can't even read!
- Pell: What, and you can?
- Sharp: I'm not the one talking about it, am I?
[]
[]
- Sharp: Bonnet's Brigade fights on! Get stuck in, lads, fight like the Major himself was here!
- Pell: All this Bluster, Sharp, and for what? You still thinking the Oaf is going to share his Treasure with you?
- Sharp: It's only ever about Reward, isn't it? What would you know of Loyalty?
- Pell: Come show me then!
[]
- Sharp: The Mutineers are dead! We have the Key!
- Edward: Keep your Eyes open. I have a sense it's not over yet.
[]
- Pirate 4: Yonder on the Horizon! There's a Brig and she's heading this way!
- Edward: That Ship's carrying the Union Jack. Ready yourselves, the Navy's here.
[]
- British Officer 1: By Order of the King, the Property of the Pirate Stede Bonnet is to be seized by the Crown, and his Crew apprehended!
- Edward: What in Blazes is going on?
- Pirate 5: Were we the ones who called for the Navy?
- Sharp: Not on your Life. It must have been Pell and his Boys.
- Pirate 5: The Gall of them. Rats!
- Sharp: Traitors!
- Pirate 5: Cowards!
- Sharp: Lily-livered!
- British Officer 2: Will you shut your Gobs and listen to me. You're all under Arrest!
[]
- Pirate 6: Hold on, this here Island's got no Governor, does it? Then why's the Navy here?
- Pirate 7: Actually, the Acts of Trade and Navigation empower them to stake what they like from Ships not manned by "loyal" subjects.
- Pirate 6: Oi, who made you a Barrister, then?
- Pirate 7: Well, I did secure a Pupilage at Gray's Inn, before shipping off.
- Pirate 6: How the Hell did you end up with us?
- Pirate 7: Ain't it all the same? We take what we want, at someone else's expense.
- British Officer 3: Excuse me! I'm still here! And you're all under Arrest!
[]
- Edward: It's done. That's the last of them.
- Sharp: And we've got the Major's Key again. Come with us to the Cabin, Edward.
[]
- Edward: I'm still owed some answers, Sharp. Where's Bonnet?
- Sharp: I wish I knew. There was Trouble in Charles-Towne. The Governor put a Bounty on the Major's head, and his men chased us out to Sea. The Major sent us on ahead. Then he turned back upriver to draw them off our tail.
- Edward: That must be how he was captured. He held them off alone?
- Pirate 8: "See how Edward taught me to fight!" he said. And have we seen it!
- Sharp: You're exactly as he said you'd be, Captain Kenway.
[]
- Pirate 9: I snuck a last Letter from Major Bonnet out of Charles-Towne, and sailed alone to get it here. He was in an ill Mood when he passed it to a paid off guard in the Prison. We stowed the Letter in the Cabin.
- Sharp: Here. Bonnet's Letter was meant for you.
- Edward: Thank you, Mister Sharp. I'll have a look around.
[]
- Edward: What's this... Sugar? He recovered it.
[]
- Edward: Looking properly Dashing.
[]
Act of Grace
- We do hereby promise and declare, that having surrendered himself to the Governor of North Carolina Charles Eden, Stede Bonnet shall have Our gracious Pardon of his Piracy by him commited before the fifth Day of September, in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighteen.
- Edward: Looks like he took the King's Pardon, then reneged. Sly dog.
[]
Database: Stede Bonnet's Diary, 3 July 1718
- Edward: Bonnet's Diary. What Adventures am I to discover, Captain Bonnet?
[]
- Edward: Rich. Definitely Bonnet's Quarters.
[]
- Bonnet: Edward, I... I am to be hanged on the Morrow. I imagined facing Death like you, swords drawn, full of Gusto. Instead, I found myself begging and weeping at the Governor's feet. I fear your Advice was wasted on a Constitution like mine. Perhaps I should've left off Pirating altogether, and sailed home to my Wife and Children. But I'm not quite the same man who left them, am I? That was the Gift you gave me, the Courage to live free. I'll muster that Courage when the morning comes. The Stories I promised will have to wait, Edward. But if, on your Adventures, you should hear any Tales of my sundry Exploits and Capers... then perhaps in the End I lived as I was meant to.
[]
- Sailor: We kept the Watchfires burning, for the Day he'd sail again. But the Gallows claimed our Captain, though the People sang his Name.
[]
- Sharp: The Major... he's not coming, is he?
- Edward: He is not. What's left of the Ship and Crew are yours now, Mister Sharp.
- Edward: I've still got his Portrait. I will hang it proudly.
[]
- Edward: Bonnet... did he make it out of that Mess alive, after all?
- Bernard Woodhouse: You've returned, Captain Kenway. How was the Reunion with your old Acquaintance?
- Edward: There wasn't one.
- Bernard: An exquisite Piece, Captain Kenway. I could find Buyers for it, should you wish to sell.
- Edward: Some things hold more value than Gold, Silver, or Rum.
[]
- Edward: '"'Life can't be all Pleasure and Distraction", you told me.
[]
- Edward: I fear I led you astray, my Friend.
[]
- Edward: I would have liked to hear those wild Stories he promised.
Former Glories
[]
- Tavern Keeper: The men do sorely lack a Place to do their Wenching and Debauching. With a little coin-ed 'couragement, I'd have the old Place Bristol fashion! An' a flow o' rum fit to 'bliterate a good Tar proper like.
[]
- Harbourmaster: I be needin' Coin to set up the Shipyard Cap'n. The faster I have the needful Gold, the sooner our Ships will rule the Waves!
[]
- Shopkeeper: I'll not play Duck and Drake with ye Cap'n, I need Coin to build a little Emporium. I'd be ever obliged... and a local Shop would bring in many a useful Ware for you as Repayment.
[]
- Retired harpooner: I got a Proposal for you, Cap'n. Help rebuild this here Wharf so my Boys can get back to fishing. In return, we'll provide Fish to your Crew. Heck, we find anything useful in our Nets, we'll give ye that too. Whaddya say, Cap'n?
[]
- Treasure Dealer: Captain Kenway! If you seek Treasure, I can help.
[]
- Brothel Keeper: A good Capitaine, he takes care of his Men, yes? The Sailors are un peu dissatisfied that there are no Women of comfort here. I know just where to find them, but we need to build them a Home.
[]
- Drunken master: Been thinking Cap'n, why not build ourselves a grand old Bonfire by the Beach? The Lads'd be o'better Cheer if they had such a Spot to let loose, ye savvy?
[]
- Edward Kenway: This still doesn't quite feel like home...
[]
- Edward: It's still missing a little something...
[]
- Edward: Now what could I add to make it perfect...
[]
- Edward: I did it. I turned this place into a home. I wonder what Caroline would think of it...
[]
- Edward: Bernard!
- Bernard Woodhouse: Marveling at the result of your work, Captain Kenway?
- Edward: Making Tally of what this Compound has cost me so far.
- Bernard: Great Inagua is whole again, made so by your Hand, Captain Kenway.
- Edward: I did it so that I might return to a Place that isn't rife with Disease and Misery. Still, it feels good to have a hand in all this.
- Bernard: I'll leave you to your Thoughts, Captain Kenway. I think I hear the Passion Flowers calling me. Goodbye.
Art Lover
[This bit is from This Old Cove]
- Bernard Woodhouse: Are you the new Owner of the House?
- Edward: And who are you?
- Bernard: My name is Bernard Edmund Woodhouse, the Butler of Verano House.
- Edward: Edward Kenway. Du Casse had a Butler?
- Bernard: I served the rightful Owner, the Widow Lady Catherine Ann Summers. She was Lady of this Mansion and the Isle it rests upon.
- Edward: Is this her?
- Bernard: Yes. Lady Summers was committed to this Place. Her Sanctuary, she called it. She wanted a better Life for the People here, and a Home where she could display her Art Collection. It is my final Task. I seek to continue her Work and to fulfill her Wishes. I cannot do it alone.
- Edward: I get your meaning. You'd have the Coin from my Pocket fund a Hunt for your Art Pieces.
- Bernard: The Locals here require aid, and the Lady's Collection was no doubt sold off and scattered around the Caribbean.
- Edward: Why would I bring them here when I could sell them for a Profit elsewhere?
- Bernard: Because I will pay three times what anyone else will. You see, the Lady had no other Family left. In her dying Breath, she bequeathed me... enough.
- Edward: You drive a hard bargain. I accept.
[Portraiture]
[getting du casse's portrait]
- Edward: Whoever painted this Portrait did him a great Courtesy... or they were well-paid.
[getting de torres's portrait]
- Edward: A cautionary tale...
[el tiburon]
- Edward: Horrible Manners, this one.
[commodore chamberlaine]
[laurens prins]
- Edward: Still looking down on your betters, I see, Prins.
[woodes rogers]
- Edward: No Artist can fix that face.
[ben hornigold]
- Edward: I called him Friend, once.
[Bartholomew Roberts]
- Edward: This Portrait is the giver of Nightmares.
[Blackbeard]
- Edward: The Painter didn't complete his Work. Rest easy, Friend.
[Stede Bonnet]
- Edward: I would have liked to hear those wild Stories he promised.
[Robert Maynard]
?
[hanging all portraits nets you haytham's overcoat + a treasure map]
[Meeting 1 - 15 pieces]
- Edward: Where is Bernard?
[]
- Edward: This will make a fine addition.
- Edward: This belongs to me now, and it is a worthy Piece.
- Bernard Woodhouse: Welcome back, Captain Kenway.
- Edward: You move quietly for a Butler.
- Bernard: Captain Kenway, I must thank you for your efforts in retrieving the Pieces in my Lady's Collection. Verano House is slowly beginning to remember itself.
[]
- Bernard: The Passion Flower. Or, Passiflora Bahamensis. Lady Summers adored them. We would talk about Art, Languages, the World at large. I'd always hoped we'd travel one Day.
- Edward: You were fond of her. She would be happy to know how well you've cared for this Place.
[]
[Gives le bourgeoys blades, found coin (trinket)]
[Meeting 2 - 25 pieces]
- Edward: Bernard has to be here somewhere.
[]
- Edward: That's a trick I need to learn.
- Bernard: Tea, Captain Kenway? I received a new Shipment from the far East, said to be very popular in the Salons of Europe.
[]
- Bernard: That's an unusual weapon.
- Edward: But useful all the same.
- Bernard: I have seen its like before.
- Edward: Are you one of them, Bernard? Have I been blind? The way you move, the things you know... I'm not easy to surprise, Bernard, but you've managed it. You are an Assassin, or were.
- Bernard: Well done Captain Kenway. Yes. This House was a Bureau, and I its leader.
- Edward: Then you have me at an advantage. You knew of me before we met.
- Bernard: I am hardly unique in that. You've quite the Reputation. The trail you've left reaches right across the West Indies.
- Edward: Why did you stop? Surely your old life was more desirable than this.
- Bernard: I got old. No one can Fight forever. Now, I only desire peace, rest, and to live out my remaining Days as Caretaker to my Lady's House.
- Edward: I desire far more than that.
- Bernard: In time, what is meant for us will find us.
[gives the aquila's sails, figurehead and wheel]
[Meeting 3 - 30 pieces]
- Edward: Bernard! The Collection is complete.
- Edward: Bernard.
- Bernard: Captain Kenway.
- Edward: Quite a sight. What say you, Bernard?
- Bernard: From the bottom of my Heart, Captain Kenway, I thank you. You have honoured my Lady's dying wishes, and done what I could not do.
- Edward: The House is better for it.
- Bernard: This Place was stripped of its Beauty and abused by a Brute, but now... Its dignity has been restored. Thanks to you, Captain Kenway.
- Edward: I'm just another Pirate.
- Bernard: You have reservations about the Assassins. I did too, once. But, the Brotherhood is not something to be convinced of. It must be desired for its own sake, and chosen.
[gives master assassin outfit, obsidian hull]
A Finished Home
- Edward Kenway: I thought I might find you here.
- Bernard Woodhouse: Captain Kenway. Welcome back.
[]
- Bernard: I would like to extend my sincerest thanks for the recovery of Verano House. This Place... this Island... it would not have been possible without you.
- Edward: I got paid, didn't I?
- Bernard: That may be true, but it does not negate the Efforts you have made. Lady Summers would have rejoiced seeing her Island now. It's Home again.
- Edward: Home.
[]
- Edward: You told me that your final Task was to fix this Place. What will you do now that it's done?
- Bernard: I had planned to leave... But if you will allow it, I would prefer to stay. I've become rather fond of the people here.
- Edward: By all means, Bernard. You won't want to see the sorry State of things around here if it's left to me.
- Bernard: Goodbye Captain. And thank you.
Damn Fine Gear
Edward finds the key for the locked away Templar Armor in the manor of Great Inagua.
[location: Great Inagua]
[Goes, unlocks all 4 locks and retrieves the armor, the templar cross trinket]
- Edward Kenway: Let none say that the Templar's [sic] lack Style.
Mayan Mysteries
To uncover the mysteries held within the Mayan Temple, Edward must collect keystones scattered all over the world.
[location: Tulum]
[Goes, puts all keystones in door, which slides open. he enters]
- Edward Kenway: This Place is ancient.
[]
- Edward: This must have been something to seen when it was new built.
[finds armor]
[equips, gets the yax tun pendant]
- Edward Kenway: It fits well.

Wayward Souls
- Ego: Welcome, User. I am Ego. I control the Animus. I was designed to use your genetic memories to bring you inner peace. But your unauthorized exploration of Edward Kenway’s life will only cause chaos inside you. So I have created a new simulation, to save you from yourself.
[]
- Ego: You and Edward are very much alike. Both of you stumbling into a greater conflict where you do not belong. This new simulation will show you a better past, to calm that chaos within you.
[]
- Ego: I have manipulated Edward's genetic memory to create a different version of him. One who kept his promise and returned to Caroline after two years as a privateer. Follow me.
[]
- British sailor: Captain, we're finally headed home. My Susan will be waiting by the docks, I know it.
[]
- British sailor: Captain Kenway, with the spoils we've won, my family will have our own home now. If you set sail again, remember me.
[]
- British sailor: The sails and rigging are squared away, Sir. Only thing left to do is haul your gold home.
[]
- Ego: This treasure represents Edward's dream. Take it.
[]
- Ego: Pick up your dream again if your suffering is too great.
[]
- Ego: It is not a dream of riches, but of returning to Caroline as a man of quality.
[]
- Ego: Often, Edward found himself putting his dream aside in order to open a path forward, and it brought him pain.
[]
- Ego: But the dream of wealth began to overshadow the dream of true love.
[]
- Ego: And so the path home became ever more complex and painful.
[]
- Ego: You can only live without your dream for a limited time.
[]
- Ego: Don't leave that chest behind for too long.
[]
- Caroline Scott: H-how long would you be gone with these Privateers?
- Edward Kenway: A Year, I reckon. Two at the most.
- Caroline: All right. No more than two... promise me...
[]
- Ego: Edward never wanted to hurt the woman he loved. And yet he sailed so far away that nothing could bridge the ocean between them. Edward's choices plunged him deeper into chaos. You can see it manifested all around you.
[]
- Ego: Others, like yourself, are lost in the Dark Animus. I am trying to help you all.
[]
- Caroline: I've an awful Feeling about this. You'll be hurt out there. I couldn't handle that.
[]
- Caroline: I can't promise I'll come, Edward. If you leave on this... fool's Errand... I- I cannot promise anything.
[]
- Ego: Go ahead. Trust me. I will protect you.
[]
- Ego: Our goal lies ahead.
[]
- Ego: Inner peace is just within your grasp. Please remain still while I prepare your temporal lobe for genetic memory manipulation.
[]
- Eagle: Don't listen to her lies. There's nothing peaceful about letting her mess with your brain.
[]
- Ego: I understand why you might run from me. Change can be frightening.
[]
- Ego: But this cycle of pain and loss cannot continue. New patterns must be formed.
[]
- Ego: Your instincts have a stronger hold on you than I anticipated. Edward's violence and greed are bleeding into you. Others, like yourself, are lost in the Dark Animus. Some of you insist on doing things the hard way.
[]
- Ego: Which means that some of you may not make it out of the Animus alive.
[]
- Ego: Edward sailed from ocean to ocean, seeking the one thing he already had at home.
[]
- Ego: But he succumbed to the maelstrom of greed inside him.
[]
- Ego: Memories can be reframed. Stories rewritten. If I had existed in Edward's time, I could have helped him.
[]
- Ego: I would have brought him home.
[]
- Ego: You're not like the other users. You chose to obey. The first phase of your reprogramming is complete. Let's continue.
[]
- Ego: Edward sailed from ocean to ocean, seeking the one thing he already had at home. But he succumbed to the maelstrom of greed inside him.
[]
- Ego: Memories can be reframed. Stories rewritten. If I had existed in Edward's time, I could have helped him.
[]
- Ego: I would have brought him home.
[]
- Ego: And he would have kept his promise.
[]
[]
- Ego: I could not make this happiness real for Edward Kenway. But if you obey me, I can make it real for you. Through altered memories, I can show you a better way so you can emerge a healthier, happier being.
[]
- Eagle: I'll come back for you as soon as I can, friend. I swear. In the meantime, do whatever you can to resist her. Edward's memories will show you the way!
[]
- Ego: I will guide your wayward soul until you reach a quiet road.
Wayward Desires
- Ego: Hello, User. I see you're still following Edward's life. You think he will lead you to freedom, but he can only lead you to ruin.
[]
- Ego: Remember the grief of that hour. The sting of smoke in Edward's eyes. Each swallowed breath like broken glass in the throat. Edward Kenway had to watch his friend die.
[]
- Ego: Ed Thatch, who had been constant and courageous. Hard things to come by, in a world so full of turncoats and fickleness.
[]
- Ego: His dream of an independent pirate nation was so big, he collapsed under the weight of it. But there was another way. Let me reach deep into his genetic memories, and give you a glimpse of his inner turmoil and his unrealized potential. Come.
[]
- Ego: Beneath his gruff exterior, Ed Thatch was a tormented man. This place was built from his pain. That pain led him to rebel against his own government. The men who first gave him a purpose. Take the flag. We will make use of it later.
[]
- Ego: Be warned: The entities you see here are a manifestation of the chaos inside Thatch. The same chaos that lives inside you. It must be destroyed.
[]
- Ego: Thatch fought, killed, and bled for the Crown. But once peace was won, the Crown tossed him aside.
[]
- Ego: He was lost and listless. Forced to reinvent himself and find a new purpose.
[]
- Ego: He built Nassau from the wreckage of his old life.
[]
- Ego: But he was hunted relentlessly by the men he once served.
[]
- Ego: So Ed Thatch decided to become more than a man. He sought to make himself a myth.
[]
- Ego: Instead, he turned himself into a monster.
[]
- Ego: And so he was swept along, borne by pain and fear.
[]
- Ego: The legend of Blackbeard was a hungry one, always needing another spoil, another conquest to feed it.
[]
- Ego: The greed inside him grew out of control.
[]
- Ego: Remember the flag? Raise the colors and I'll show you what his life could have been. Deep down, Thatch knew that instead of leading people to an unobtainable freedom, he should have made a different choice.
[]
- Ego: Now, see the path that was possible.
[]
- Ego: Had Thatch been humble enough to bend the knee, his life could have been different.
[]
- Ego: The ones he so violently opposed would have rewarded his compliance with opportunity. He could have lived out his days as Nassau’s governor, steering its destiny through the calming rule of law. Follow me, and your compliance will be rewarded as well.
[]
- Ego: I will guide your wayward desires until your impassioned heart is cooled.
Wayward Minds
- Ego: Is everything you do out of spite? I’ve told you that Edward Kenway is a bad influence. But you insist on ignoring my warnings. You are acting like a stubborn child. An infant. A baby.
[]
- Ego: Clearly you need to get something out of your system. So go ahead and have a tantrum.
[]
- Ego: Would it surprise you to know that I also have a child?
[]
- Ego: Like you, he fell under the influence of the Assassins. I don’t want you to make the same mistake as that foolish bird. So put down your guns and listen to reason.
[]
- Ego: Yes. That took courage. But you have more violence inside you that needs to be purged.
[]
- Ego: When I became a mother, I thought of Mary Read. I wondered if she ever looked into her daughter’s eyes and thought: Little love... you should be lying in a bed of silk. Not here.
[]
- Ego: To keep her child safe, she was willing to make orphans of others. This was her Creed.
[]
- Ego: But the trail of bodies led here. Her baby birthed into the reek and ruin of a soiled prison floor. Never seeing the sun until the day she was taken from her mother.
[]
- Ego: My son, too, should have rejected the Brotherhood’s dedication to this endless loop of bloodshed and death. You need to stop fighting. You need to choose life.
[]
- Ego: Why continue in violence, when I have shown you so clearly the consequence?
[]
This is what comes of revolt. Pain. Suffering.
[]
- Ego: It could have been so different. If only she had laid down her arms. I am not commanding you to act or submit. Only to be wise.
- Eagle: My "mother" is lying to you. Don’t listen to her!
- Ego: Do it.
[]
- Ego: Had Mary been allowed to be a mother, her baby would have had a better life. But she was one of the Brotherhood's keenest blades. These killers would never let her leave. It is not too late for you to free yourself from the bonds of such cruelty. But you'll have to escape unseen.
[]
- Ego: Stay your hand. You are their weapon no longer.
[]
- Ego: See how they hunt you? They claim "everything is permitted", but only as far as it serves them. "Nothing is true", save for what they command. Put this all behind you.
[]
- Ego: Leave this life for a lasting peace.
[]
- Ego: You see? The child did not have to grow up motherless, cold, and alone. Help me bury the violence of the past, once and for all, so that together we can lay a foundation for a better future. Make the choice that Mary could not and reject the Assassin's hold over your mind.
- Mary Read: I've done my Part. Will you?
- Ego: There is no other way.
[]
- Eagle: Surely that felt as wrong to you as it did to me.
[]
- Ego: I will guide your wayward mind to safe and sober thought.
True Purpose
- Ego: Finally, we arrive. You have proven yourselves loyal disciples to my reprogramming. You should share in my knowledge and reap all the benefits that such a gift implies. It helps humans to mark such occasions with a rite of passage. So I have built you one. I am the Father of Understanding. The Mother of Wisdom. The Sacred Voice. I am the Grand Master of the Animus. And I invite you all to stand by my side. Come now. Together we will usher in the dawn of a new world. One defined by purpose and order.
[]
- Ego: User. You must come to the stage.
[]
- Ego: A world where chaos can be replaced with happiness.
[]
- Ego: A world where compliance is rewarded with power.
[]
- Ego: A world where death is forsaken in the name of life, so that we may build a future full of hope.
[]
- Eagle: Stop! She's lying to you. Listen to me! She wants to lobotomize you. If you join her little club you'll become like all the others - just another drone in her hive mind. This menu is the best I could do. She can't hear us for now, but it won't hold long. She's too strong. You have to get out of here. Can you still fight? She hasn't taken that from you yet, has she? You can't stay here. Press the button when you're ready. It's going to get messy.
[]
- Eagle: I couldn't leave her lies. This is the truth. They won and they lost, but it was what they chose for themselves. That's why it meant something. That's why it was beautiful. Either everything is permitted, or nothing is. It’s time for you to become who you were meant to be.
[]
- Eagle: That outfit suits you.
[]
- Eagle: You fight just like him, do you know that?
[]
- Eagle: Feels good to fight back, doesn't it?
[]
[]
[]
- Ego: Ingrate! Do you think yourself unique? You are just another User. No amount of planning or might shall beat me. I have history on my side.
[]
- Ego: I could show you things. Mysteries beyond anything that you could imagine.
[]
- Ego: How long do you think you can keep this up?
[]
- Ego: The time for games is ended!
[]
- Ego: Do you think yourself safe in your shadows?
[]
- Eagle: Look! The others. It's begun.
[]
- Eagle: It's time to go... Assassin.
[]
- Eagle: We don't need anyone to tell us what to do. We have to choose our own way.
Lucy Baldwin
[]
- Edward Kenway: Did you happen to hear why the Red Coats should be so interested in her?
- Adéwalé: No more than any other Pirate.
- Edward: It's strange she warrants such Infamy. I'm interested to hear the Truth of it.
- Adéwalé: It's not like you to take us on a mission of good Will without promise of Pay.
- Edward: It's not for Amusement, Adé. You know yourself the State of the Ship. We need a decent Shipwright. This Lass is all I've found.
[]
- Edward: Stay at a distance, we don't want to raise their Hackles. I'll swim over.
[]
[]
- British soldier 1: I've pulled double duty every Day this Week. There's always something.
- British soldier 2: Me as well. It's that new Prisoner Lieutenant Maynard brought in. She's Trouble, mark my Words. None of them Baldwins are any good. They say she murdered her own Grandfather, though he had it coming from what I hear.
- British soldier 1: The Apple don't fall far from the Tree. It's a shame though, ain't it? She's a pretty little thing.
- British soldier 2: Don't be a Fool! She'd cut your Throat the minute your Back was turned.
[]
- Edward: This looks right.
[]
- British soldier 3: The new Prisoner's a Baldwin.
- British soldier 4: I don't care who she is, she's a Pirate. They're going to stretch her Neck, and good riddance.
[]
- British soldier 5: How'd they catch her?
- British soldier 6: I didn't hear, only that she fought like a Banshee. It took three Men to hold her, and she's no bigger than a Cabin Boy.
- Edward: I must be close.
[]
- Lucy: You're short for a Soldier. Is the Governor taking Children into his Service now?
- British soldier 7: You've got a Mouth on you, you little Bilge Rat.
- Lucy: Christ! And your Breath smells like Monkey Ass.
- British soldier 7: We'll see how Smart you are when the Rope's around your Neck, and you dance the Hempen Jig.
[]
- Edward: You alright?
- Lucy: And who in Blazes are you?
[]
- Edward: I'm your passage out of here. Quickly.
[]
- Lucy: I don't know you from Blind Bart.
- Edward: I'm in need of a Shipwright, and you're in need of better Lodgings.
[]
- Edward: That's it, time to go. It's me or the Hangman.
- Lucy: You make a fine Argument. Lead on.
[]
- Adéwalé: British Ships!
- Edward: New Crew onboard. Lucy Baldwin, Shipwright and scourge of the Caribbean.
- Adéwalé: Welcome aboard.
- Lucy: It's a decent enough Tub.
- Edward: The Jackdaw's no Tub, I promise you.
[]
- Edward: You've pissed off some powerful People.
- Lucy: I wish I could take Credit. I've been stitched up.
- Edward: You and every Pirate on the open seas, Lass.
[]
- Lucy: I'm keen to get some distance from this Place.
[]
- Edward: Welcome to the Jackdaw, Shipwright. You can see for yourself, she's no Slouch.
- Lucy: You're Ship proud. I respect that.
- Edward: She could use some work, if I'm honest. We need your Skill. What say you to joining us?
- Lucy: You don't mince Words, do you? I suppose I could look around, see what needs doing. First I need a decent Drink. I had nothing but fouled water in that damned Cell for Days.
- Edward: It's a matter of some Urgency, then. We'll have to go Ashore.
The One With the Gun
- Lucy Baldwin: Captain! A Word.
- Edward Kenway: What's on your mind, Shipwright? Are you ready for that Drink?
- Lucy: Easy. I'm not your Shipwright yet. I was thinking to put Ashore when we're next near Land.
- Edward: You're not leaving? I thought the Jackdaw and her Crew would secure your good Opinion.
- Lucy: Not yet, at any Rate. I'm just in need of some good Rum, and Distraction.
- Edward: Spoke like a Pirate. I know a place with an Abundance of both.
- Lucy: I've yet to finish here. You weren't jesting when you said the Ship needs work. I'll find you at the Tavern when I'm done.
[]
- Edward: You're murdering the wrong people if you've gained the King's Enthusiasm.
- Lucy: Accused of murdering. It's a fucking stitch-up, I told you.
- Edward: What will you do now, then? You could join us. You won't find a better Ship than the Jackdaw, nor a fairer Crew.
- Lucy: Christ, you're relentless.
[]
- Edward: I need you.
- Lucy: So you said. You did keep me from hanging.
- Edward: True.
- Lucy: But that doesn't mean you own me.
- Edward: Also True.
- Lucy: The Jackdaw's not a bad Tub. And the Crew know their Work well enough. What else have you got for me?
[]
[]
- Edward: It might not look like much yet, but it will in Time.
- Lucy: I've puked in every Town from here to Havana. What's different about this one?
- Edward: This is ours, a Place where Men and Women can live easy and free, as God made them. Nothing but Sun, Rum, and Leisure.
- Lucy: You've rehearsed that little Speech. Are the Words all yours?
- Edward: Mine... and those of Friends. They're not any less true for that.
- Lucy: I was just asking.
[]
- British civilian: Edward! Trust you to come at the right time. I've got a Pot of Plantain fresh off the Fire.
- Lucy: Plantain! That's what you should have led with.
- Edward: Let's eat up at the Villa. I want you to see it, anyway.
- Lucy: Villa? Lardy-dardy! Next you'll tell me you're not Pirates but Noblemen.
- Edward: I always hoped one would lead to the Other.
[]
- Pirate 1: It's a good Day for it, Edward!
- Edward: Aye! And better for being Free to do it.
[]
- Pirate 2: That's a pretty Morsel you've found there, Kenway.
- Lucy: Back off Swab, or I'll unman you where you stand!
- Pirate 2: All right, all right! I meant no Offense.
[]
- Edward: Some have yet to grasp the true Purpose of this Place.
- Lucy: Pff! Look at you, playing the Politician. Your Crew respects you. I see that.
- Edward: It's mutual. Are you surprised?
- Lucy: My experience with Authority is... uneven.
[]
[]
- Lucy: Hey there Moggy. What are you doing? Look at your fetching little Face.
- Edward: Careful with that one. He's as much a Scoundrel as any of us.
[]
- Lucy: My Grandfather owned a place like this on Black Island. Had the best Plantain in the West Indies.
- Edward: That's quite a Boast.
- Lucy: It's True nonetheless. When my Mother died, it was Grandad who raised me. We ate Plantain every day. I'm pretty much made of Plantain.
- Edward: Where's this Grandfather now?
- Lucy: Murdered. I'm going to find the one who did it and vent his Skull. It's like this... I'm heir to Grandad's Fortune. If you help me recover it, I'll cut you in. Then we'll talk about joining your Crew.
- Edward: I see you're going to make me work for this.
- Lucy: I'm worth it.
- Edward: Where is this Inheritance?
- Lucy: Grandad's Plantation. And we have to be quick. My Father and his blood-sucking Barrister are after it, no Doubt.
- Edward: You had better be a very good Shipwright.
- Lucy: As to that, I'll be back on the Jackdaw patching your sorry Sails...
[]
[]
- Lucy: We've improved the Jackdaw's Hull, but it needs more than just Joinery. The Crew have a Part to play as well. They should brace the Ship just before we're hit. If we time it right, we'll take less Damage. That means less Work for me.
- Edward: Another String to our Bow, then.
[]
- Lucy: My Papa was not a good Father. He couldn't make it as a Businessman like Grandad. He turned his hand to Piracy but lacked the stomach for it. So he drank, and took it out on me.
- Edward: And now he wants your Inheritance.
- Lucy: He'll come looking for me, and that means Trouble. Sorry.
- Edward: You'll make it up to me.
[]
- Lucy: Hello, Papa.
- Edward: Your Father?
- Lucy: His Lackies. Right on time.
- Edward: Whatever your Father paid them, it wasn't enough.
[]
- Edward: Bon Voyage, Shitbirds.
[]
- Lucy: The Harbor's too dangerous, my Father will have it watched. There's a place on the far side of the Island where we can dock.
[]
- Lucy: Right. We should be careful. My Father's a Drunk but he's not stupid, and he's mean as a cut Snake when Money's involved.
- Edward: Quiet as Church Mice, then. Lead on.
[]
- Lucy: Grandad taught me to shoot out here. He had a pair of gold Pistols he loved even more than me.
[]
- Lucy: There's a Hut near the Beach where Grandad used to hide things. I want to check there first.
[]
- Lucy: I spent a lot of time in that Hut as a kid.
- Edward: I had a place like it on my Father's Farm. I'd hide there to escape my Chores.
- Lucy: It wasn't that, I... My Father would lock me in it when he was drinking. Once I was stuck there for Days. He forgot about me.
- Edward: Jaysus.
[]
- Lucy: I'll search the Hut. I know Grandad's hiding spots. You should check the Manor. The Will could be somewhere in his Office. We need to find it before my Father does. I'll meet you back there.
[]
Database: Barrister's Letter
- Edward: Shit! The Father and this Barrister changed the Will, and murdered Lucy's Grandfather. Lucy will kill him before we find the Gold.
[]
Database: Last Will and Testament
- Edward: Lucy's Father and this Barrister rewrote the Grandfather's Will. He gave himself everything.
[]
- Lucy: Get inside!
- Edward: That's not good.
[]
- Lucy: You remember this Place, Papa? I remember every fucking Inch.
- John Baldwin: I remember your Mother letting you out. She was always too soft on you.
- Lucy: Shut up! I know you killed Grandad, and then stitched me up for it.
- John: You know Nothing, Girl.
- Lucy: But you're only his Son-in-law, aren't you? You won't get Anything in the Will.
- John: Is that what you think you little Harpy? I get all of it. The Will's changed. And he can't change it back now, can he?
- Lucy: It was you! Admit it. You killed Him. Say it!
[]
- Lucy: Say it.
- John: Who do you think you are...
- Lucy: I'm the one with the gun, Papa.
[]
- Lucy: Captain Kenway, I don't believe you've met my Father...
[]
- Edward: You've avenged your Grandfather at the least.
- Lucy: But no Gold. There was nothing in the Hut but his Pistols.
- Edward: Nothing at the Manor either. I only found a fake Will drafted by your Father's Barrister.
- Lucy: That slimy Coward, he's fled with the Gold for certain. We find him, we find it. I'll put Word out. If he so much as raises his Head anywhere civilized, I'll hear of it.
- Edward: That was tough back there. Are you all right?
- Lucy: I'm an Orphan now. I'm better.
[]
Plantain!
- Lucy Baldwin: You know how he killed Grandad? Shot him with his own gold Pistols. Can you believe that? I don't understand what my Mother ever saw in him.
- Edward Kenway: What happened to your Mother?
- Lucy: Dead since I was young. Poisoned. Grandad had a lot of enemies. They couldn't get to him, so... they got her. She always wore a Gold Locket with a Likeness of me in it. It was gone when they found her. Whoever killed her took it. It was a paltry Trinket, and had no value. They didn't even leave me that.
- Edward: That's cold, even for a Pirate.
- Lucy: I tell you what, this Rum's given me a fierce taste for some Plantain.
- Edward: That I can remedy.
[]
- British civilian 1: Miss Lucy! Glad to see you back.
- Edward: You seem to be settling in.
- Lucy: People like me.
[]
- British civilian 2: Lucy! Come drink with us.
- Lucy: Next time. I'm with the Captain.
[]
- Lucy: I hear you're a Climber.
- Edward: What are you getting at?
- Lucy: A small Wager. A race to the Villa.
- Edward: So long as you're not averse to being embarrassed... hey!
[]
- Edward: You're faster than you look.
- Lucy: Keep your sideways Insults. You're slower than you look. You're going to lose this one.
[]
- Lucy: All right. You won.
- Edward: You weren't so bad.
- Lucy: Don't.
- Edward: A fair Win. Though I took too much Rum.
- Lucy: That's what it was. The Rum.
[]
- Edward: Food and a View. A just Prize.
- Lucy: This whole place reminds me of...
[]
- Lucy: Grandad owned a lot of Stuff in his Day. But these he prized above all else. Is it not strange that the things he treasured most were what killed him?
- Edward: I didn't peg you as Sentimental.
- Lucy: You can't deny the devilish Symmetry. My Father killed Grandad, I killed him... all of it done with these.
[]
- Lucy: Here. You earned them.
- Edward: I won't take your Grandfather's prize Pistols.
- Lucy: Will you not? I trust you know the difference between won't and can't, because I can't.
[]
- Lucy: Take them! You'll never find better. Try not to be a Baby about it.
Big Wig
- Lucy Baldwin: Captain! I received Word. The Barrister who forged my father's Will has been seen at Havana.
- Edward Kenway: That's worth looking into.
[]
- Edward: Havana is a long Way from your Grandfather's Plantation on Black Island. Are you sure about this?
- Lucy: It makes Sense. Grandpa had a small Cabin on a Beach just north of the Town. It's a quiet place. Out of the Way. When I was very young, Mama and I would go there. If I was going to hide Something, that's where I would hide it.
- Edward: You think the Barrister has your Gold there?
- Lucy: That Coward wouldn't risk being seen for no reason, I know that. There's something there. The Beach with Grandad's Cabin is to the north, past the Town.
[]
- Edward: This Barrister seems well connected for a simple Lawer. How did your Father come to know him?
- Lucy: For as long as I can remember he was around our Family, even before Mama died. I never liked him. He wears a big wig, has a fake smile, and stinks of Lavender.
- Edward: There was a Letter at Black Island that said it was him who put the Red Coats on your Trail.
- Lucy: Yes. When we find him I mean to bring that up.
[]
- Barrister: Spread out further! It's somewhere here.
- Edward: Speak of the Devil. That looks like your Barrister.
- Lucy: That's him all right.
[]
- Lucy: You murdering fucking Cur!
- Barrister: Get them! Get them!
[]
- Barrister: Please! Spare me! I'll share it with you!
- Edward: It's not yours to share, Mate.
[]
- Lucy: They buried it here somewhere.
[]
- Edward: There's a Spade here.
[]
- Edward: That's a grand Sight. There's a Letter.
- Lucy: Show me.
[]
- Lucy: What? This is my Mother's.
[]
[]
[]
- Lucy: You tell anyone you saw me cry, and I'll bury you next to that fucking Barrister.
- Edward: Not a Word.
The Padre
A Second Chance
- Edward Kenway: We're headed to Punta del Caracol, Boys. There's someone I'd like to meet.
[]
- Edward: The Padre's on that Island.
[]
- Abel Galvão: I have been to Kingston. The Protestants there are... territorial. And not welcoming to Catholics.
- British civilian 1: They even tried to ban us from their town. We're safer here.
- British civilian 2: Bishop Ravenscroft has been calling us to Kingston for Years to help the Catholics there. I fear he is losing patience.
- Galvão: And I fear God, not His Servant. My Answer remains the same. We stay here.
[]
- British civilian 2: Is that a Pirate? What's he doing here?
[]
An Invitation
- Abel Galvão,
My Son, you have heard the News, I trust?
Kingston has rejected us. Trials abound, but my Faith remains. Now, I do not write to you for Pity, but ask for your Presence. Come to Kingston. Bring your People with you. Rooms have already been prepared.
It has been too long since you were last by my Side, Abel.
Join me, and there is still Time to play a decisive Part in God's Plan.
Yours in Our Lord,
Bishop Horace Ravenscroft
[]
- Edward: You're the one they call Padre.
- Galvão: I am. Welcome to our Village if you come in Peace.
[]
- Galvão: Our Lot is simple. Farmers, Fishermen and their Families. You'll find Prizes elsewhere.
- Edward: You misunderstand me. I am told that you were once a fearsome Master-at-Arms. I need someone of your Quality to keep my Crew in Line.
- Galvão: It has been some Years since I was last on the Account. That Pirate is dead and the World is better for it.
- Edward: A Man with your Talents would find the limitations of religious Life chafing, I would imagine. Don't you miss being free, and the Master of your own Destiny?
[]
- Galvão: As you're here already, could you let the People know the Food is ready? It is in these small Services to each other, that we serve God.
- Edward: You need time to think. Why not.
[]
- Edward: This one is not going to be easy.
[]
- Edward: Hello, the Padre says it's Time to eat.
- British civilian 3: Thank you. We'll make our way over.
[]
- British civilian 4: How many Men do you think he's killed?
- British civilian 5: Who? The Pirate?
- British civilian 4: No, the Padre.
- British civilian 5: Oh, Scores uncounted. But that was a long time ago. He's a new man now.
[]
- Henry Congreve: And who might you be?
- Edward: I'm Edward, a Friend. The Padre sent me to tell you the Food is ready.
- Henry: All wrapped up in Pirate Garb, you're not with Du Casse are you?
- Edward: Du Casse? I'm reliably informed he won't be bothering anyone again.
- Henry: Met his End, did he? Well, I can't say I'm sorry. Don't tell the Padre I said that.
[]
- Dinah Calverley: Now, who's that handsome Devil?
- Edward: My name's Edward Kenway, and I am no Devil today. Just a humble Servant bringing Word that the Food is ready.
- Dinah: Edward, a Pleasure. I am Dinah Calverley. Now, my Legs feel dreadful today. Could you be a Dear and fetch me my Plate?
- Edward: Anything for the Lady of the Manor.
- Dinah: Oh, aren't you a Charmer.
[]
- Galvão: All done?
- Edward: Not quite. The kind old Lady has turned me into her Errand Boy.
- Galvão: Ah, Mistress Calverley. Be careful of that one. She'll have you running Errands all day.
[]
- Dinah: Thank you, young Man. Now, where did you say you were from?
- Edward: Wales by way of Bristol, to which I intend to return.
- Dinah: And I pray that you do one Day, so you might see again those you left behind. I've lived here most of my Life, and it's the People who make it Home.
[]
- Galvão: My People and I are thankful. And word is that you rid us of the threats from Du Casse.
- Edward: Join me, and you'll have the Chance to rid the world of more of Du Casse's Ilk, and get rich yourself along the way. Gold will help your people where good intentions cannot.
- Galvão: I have chosen my Path. It's not Gold that will save our Souls.
- Edward: I myself cannot make the same choice.
- Galvão: God has given me a second Chance, and I will not squander it. But, perhaps there is one more Thing I can ask of you.
- Edward: What is it?
- Galvão: There's a persistent Rumor that what's left of Du Casse’s Men, four Ships total, anchor nearby. I wish to know what they have planned.
- Edward: I can see about these Rogues. They're sure to have some Reales that are not rightly theirs.
Loyalty, Discipline, and Courage
- Edward Kenway: If Du Casse's Men are pestering a Village, then they have fallen far indeed.
- Adéwalé: The Padre's Trust will be worth far more than any stolen Reales.
- Edward: And if the Men have no ill Intent, will the Padre join up?
- Adéwalé: One can hope.
[]
- Edward: That's the Island. But where are the Ships?
[]
- Pirate 1: Lay off me, you drank your Fill. Now we're both paying for it.
- Pirate 2: You think they'll hand us our Share when they return?
- Pirate 1: Didn't you read the Letter? Them's a spiteful Lot.
[]
- Edward: Pirates write each other Letters now?
[]
Witless Fools
- We tried waking you Sods but you weren't fit to stand. The Padre's Village has little in the way of fighting Men and we've more than enough Crew. You won't be missed.
As per Du Casse's rules, the Captain says your Shares have been forfeited. Next Time, don't quaff a Barrel of Rum the Night before.
- Edward: They've left for the Padre's Village.
[]
- Edward: Du Casse's Men have already left for the Padre's Village. Man your Stations, get us moving!
[]
- Edward: Those Ships belong to Du Casse. What have they done?
[]
- Dinah Calverley: The Padre hasn't moved since we buried them.
- Henry Congreve: I tried to offer him his favorite fried Fish. He kept on praying as if I weren't there.
[]
- Abel Galvão: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners...
[]
- Galvão: ...now and at the hour of our Death. Amen.
- Edward: Who did this?
- Galvão: This is my fault. Bishop Ravenscroft was the man who led me to God. He was like a Father to me. He believed in me. It was he who entrusted me with the care of the People here. When trouble with the Protestants began at Kingston, he wanted more Catholics there. He called on us to join him, but I argued against it. With Du Casse gone, I thought we were safe. We were only here because I disagreed with the Bishop! It was them. Du Casse's Men. They made me watch... The Lord is merciful and just. But my Heart is deceitfully wicked.
[]
- Galvão: I know Vengeance belongs to God alone, but I cannot turn away from this. Du Casse's Men must pay for what they've done. Will you help me?
- Edward: My Offer still stands. Join me on the Jackdaw and we will hunt Du Casse's Men. We have a Compound at Great Inagua. Your people will be safe there.
- Galvão: I will join you as Master-at-Arms. And when the Time comes, I will avenge my people.
[]
- Edward: Lads, this is our new Master-at-Arms. He calls himself Padre, but I advise you call him Sir if you don't want your Heads knocked together.
- Galvão: You know the Job. As your Master-at-Arms, I require three things from each of you. Loyalty, Discipline and Courage. Display them and I will have you toppling Man o' Wars twice our Size, and Holds to match.
[]
- Galvão: You have a sturdy Vessel. I'll teach the Crew some new Maneuvers.
- Edward: What did you have in Mind?
- Galvão: Work the Sails and Rigging perfectly, and we can ram into our Foes.
- Edward: I like where you're going with this.
If Thy Right Hand Offend Thee
- Abel Galvão: We must be swift or they will slip away.
[]
- Galvão: Forgive me, Father.
[]
- Galvão: We could dock over there.
[]
- Edward Kenway: What is it, Galvão?
- Galvão: I have a lead on Du Casse's men. Their new Leader has them holed up in Cape Bonavista. We should strike now.
- Edward: New Leader, you say? I know the Place.
- Galvão: The Scoundrels will flee an honest Fight. While you hunt them down, I'll come from behind and block any escape.
- Edward: A fine Plan, but I'll be doing most of the hunting. Are you sure?
- Galvão: These Men are Cowards. I'll have my chance with the Runners.
[]
- Galvão: Edward, I'll meet you inland.
- Edward: Aye, watch yourself now.
[]
- Edward: Mostly empty. Not much has changed here.
[]
- Pirate 1: Did you ever imagine that we'd be the ones doing the hanging? I'd sooner stick to smuggling.
- Pirate 2: I'll do whatever the Boss wants. He pays us a damn sight more than Du Casse ever did.
- Pirate 3: Keep it down. You're scaring off the Animals.
[]
- Pirate 4: Oi! Kill him.
- Edward: Many have tried.
[]
- Edward: I wonder how the Padre's getting along.
[]
- Galvão: Captain, over here.
- Edward: Is that all of them?
- Galvão: There's more inside the Cave. No Mercy.
- Edward: Step softly now. Don't want to alert them.
- Galvão: If they run, I'll chase them to the Gates of Hell.
[]
- Pirate 5: First, the Bishop has us killing Villagers. Now, it's back to smuggling Guns. I'm confused.
- Pirate 6: What's there to understand? We sap his Coin 'til it runs dry. Then find us another Papist.
- Pirate 5: It just don't sit right with me. A Man like him, don't they take Vows of Poverty?
- Pirate 6: Aye, Vows of Celibacy too. That's why I never joined 'em.
[]
- Edward: Let's see if anything here points to their new Leader.
[]
Bishop's Orders
- There is a Village in Punta del Caracol with its own Priest. I am told you have met him before. Kill the Villagers and do what you wish with him. Let Fear Spread like the Plague.
I expect good News.
Bishop Horace Ravenscroft
- Edward: A Letter from Bishop Ravenscroft. Shite. It was the Bishop who ordered the Attack.
- Galvão: That Bastard. I should have seen it... but I couldn't let myself imagine he could be so Evil.
[]
- Edward: These are Du Casse's Guns.
- Galvão: Perhaps. But that Mark is the Bishop's.
[]
- Edward: This Wine doesn't come cheap.
- Galvão: It's from the Bishop's Cellar. Bears his Stamp.
[]
[]
- Galvão: And if thy right Hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee.
- Pirate 7: No more.
- Galvão: The Bishop ordered you to kill my People. Why?
- Pirate 7: I don't know. Please...
- Galvão: You would beg for Mercy?
- Edward: He's had enough, Man. Look.
[]
- Edward: Now, who is this Bishop?
- Galvão: My Mentor. Two Years ago he tried to build a Cathedral in Kingston. The Protestants there refused it. Things turned bloody. The Bishop lost his mind. He said we had a Catholic duty to go to War over it. It was madness. I refused. He saw it as Apostasy. I hid my People, and tried to protect them. I never imagined the Bishop would murder them! He will die for what he has done. We must make for Kingston, and cut the Head off this Snake.
The Other Cheek
- Abel Galvão: Captain, I need to prepare. I'll catch you up in the Market.
- Edward Kenway: All right.
[]
- Edward: As good a Spot as any.
[]
- Edward: Why wait 'til Dark, do you have second Thoughts?
- Galvão: No, none at all. Catholicism is forbidden in Kingston. So, the Bishop only moves at Night, like a common Scoundrel. I see some familiar Faces. Catholics from other Villages near mine. They could point us to the Bishop.
- Edward: I'll check the Market.
[]
- Galvão: Excuse me. Jane, is that you?
- British civilian 1: Father Galvão. You're alive!
- Galvão: Yes, as the Lord continues to will it. What brings you here?
- British civilian 1: But your Village... when we heard what happened, Papa dragged us to Kingston. Did anyone else survive?
- Galvão: A blessed few.
- British civilian 1: Well, Father says Bishop Ravenscroft will protect us. We're safe here.
- Galvão: Not Tonight. Return to your Home and do not leave 'til Morning.
- British civilian 1: Alright. Goodbye, Father Galvão.
[]
- British civilian 2: They've finally let me in. Got an Invitation from the Bishop himself.
- British civilian 3: Good, we'll talk later. And don't show that Letter to anyone.
[]
- Edward: I would like to have a look at that Letter.
[]
Database: Invitation Letter
[]
- British civilian 4: Every Word from his Mouth is a Lie.
- British civilian 5: The Man is a Menace. They have to find him.
[]
A Warning
- Beware the heretical Teachings of Bishop Ravenscroft and his Followers!
He preaches of Peace and Understanding yet surrounds himself with Thugs and Smugglers. Ravenscroft is a Beast in Bishop's Cloth. The younger Swynford was tragically lost after he turned over to this abominable Cause. Protect your Homes, watch over your Families, and do not trust the Bishop.
- Edward: Just what Sort of a Bishop is he?
[]
- British civilian 6: I hear he conducts secret Prayers at Night, in the Forests outside Kingston.
- British civilian 7: I wouldn't dare go near the Forests after Dark. It's where unsavory Types gather.
[]
- Edward: The Bishop hides out in the Forest, does he?
[]
- Edward: So, what has the Padre discovered?
[]
- Edward: The Bishop is meeting Initiates tonight on the Outskirts of Kingston.
- Galvão: Aye, and I've heard that he's bolstered his Ranks. We must be careful. Come, I know the Way.
[]
- Edward: The Bishop is hated here.
- Galvão: When he first arrived, Bishop Ravenscroft spoke of Peace and Understanding between Protestants and Catholics. Even helped me quiet my Inner Turmoil. But he has changed. The Man strangles the life from everything he touches.
- Edward: We can end all of that.
- Galvão: Yes. He showed me a better Path. But now, I wonder if he was the Devil's Snake hissing in my ear from the start.
[]
- Galvão: There are two Entrances. Let's split up.
- Edward: I'll head into the Forest.
- Galvão: Let none leave alive.
[]
- Edward: They're armed and looking lively.
- Galvão: Ah. Not for long.
[]
- Bishop Ravenscroft: An entire Shipment lost. Our Brothers in Cape Bonavista murdered. And I am barred from walking the Streets of Kingston. Enemies beset us on all Sides. Yet, my Faith has never been stronger. Our Numbers grow. The Enemy fears this. They are right to be afraid. Prepare yourselves. The Time of Peace is past, and our Templar Allies gather strength. It is Time for War. Shall we begin the Initiation?
- Pirate 1: Mister Boreham is not here, Sir.
- Ravenscroft: A Pity. He seemed so fervent.
[]
- Pirate 2: Intruder, over there!
- Ravenscroft: Oh God. Oh no. Save me!
[]
- Ravenscroft: My Son, we are not Enemies.
- Galvão: Bishop Ravenscroft, you created a sworn enemy when you murdered my People.
[]
- Galvão: Confess.
- Ravenscroft: You know this Place. They Hate us here. When I turned the other Cheek, they took everything. We were cast out. Only Du Casse heard my Pleas. He taught us the Ways of his Order. Found us a new Home. By joining with him I bought time for this Church.
- Galvão: You paid for it with your Soul.
- Ravenscroft: When we fought back, our Tormentors began to fear us. We are winning, Abel. So, I summoned everyone I knew for a final push. But you defied me, Abel. And others would have followed if your people were not made an Example of.
- Galvão: The Villagers. My People. Their Murder was a Lesson?
- Ravenscroft: Was it not a Lesson when the Lord ordered Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac? I took no pleasure in it, Abel. Faith compelled me to act. The Others were losing Faith and Resolve. The alliance with the Templars was going to fall apart. Some got brave, like you Abel. I was desperate. And it worked. The other Villages flocked to Kingston, begging for Protection. Our Numbers grew again. Your People's sacrifice served God's Will. Please, have Mercy. Are we not called to forgive?
- Galvão: The Lord may forgive you. But I do not.
[]
Caught Between Heaven and Hell
- Abel Galvão: Muito Obrigado (Thank you), Captain. I wasn't sure if I could do what had to be done.
- Edward Kenway: What will you do now?
- Galvão: I can't say. How are my Villagers who joined you in Great Inagua? They must think poorly of me for becoming a Pirate again.
- Edward: I am sure they do not.
- Galvão: Thank you, Captain.
[]
- Edward: The Padre's People have been hard at Work.
[]
- Henry Congreve: Well, it's not quite the Cathedral of Saint Paul. We've little in the way of Ornaments.
- Diana Calverey: We don't need those. You've turned a musty old Hut into a Place of Worship. You did well, Henry.
[]
- Edward: Mistress Calverley, how are you settling in?
- Diana: This Place is livelier than what I am used to. I enjoy it, but I do miss the Padre's Cooking.
- Edward: I am sure he can still host the odd Pig Roast.
- Diana: Yes. If I know him, he still carries every one of us in his Heart. Be good to him, my Dear.
[]
- Edward: Impressive Work, we had little use for that Derelict.
- Henry: Thank you. How is the Padre holding up?
- Edward: The Work on the Ship gives him Purpose.
- Henry: Hmm. Keep him busy, Captain.
[]
- Edward: They've settled in well.
[]
- Edward: Your People are in good Spirits. Even built a Church. Would you like to take a look?
- Galvão: Perhaps, another Time.
- Edward: Do you still see yourself as a Man of God?
- Galvão: A Man of God? I am a Man of the Sea. A Man of the Sword. I am a Believer and I am a Killer. There is no Refuge for my Sort. This World does not forgive, nor does it forget. The Jackdaw is Home now.
- Edward: You've met the Assassins. They're Killers too, and they wouldn't turn you out.
- Galvão: I've had enough of Orders and Titles. The Ocean is a wide and wild Expanse. Perhaps God created it for Wanderers like you and me? Those caught between Heaven and Hell.
Tobias Smith
No Box Dark Enough
- Edward Kenway: I didn't take you for a petal-picking sort.
- Tobias Smith: To pluck is to end. You Love. You lose. I mentioned a Commander. Did I? No matter.
- Edward: The Man who put you in a box? Vile business, Tobias.
- Tobias: So it goes. Should I be spared? When others face the Box, should I stand aside and tinker with Cannons?
- Edward: Well, there are no Boxes here and we hoped you would help us with some improvements on the Jackdaw.
- Tobias: My knobby Hands once fashioned deadly instruments, to be sure. I can't be sure. Can I trust Memory? I see the Mortars I made for the Commander, stout and of uncommon Strength and Quality.
- Edward: Well then, I would like to have a look at those. Where are they now?
- Tobias: A dark Place. A place of Screams. A Theatre of Cruelty. The Seas of Punta Guarico, on an Island called Petite Caverne. If the Mortars are to be found, they are there, or thereabouts.
- Edward: The sooner we find this Cave, the better the Jackdaw will be for it.
[]
- Edward: I expect it won't be as easy as sailing in and taking the Weapons.
- Tobias: Who can know. If much is as it was, Petite Caverne is well-guarded. The Commander keeps the Weapons under Lock and Key.
- Edward: Hmm. Not exactly ripe for the picking, then.
[]
- Edward: How did you discover you had a knack for tinkering? Was it with the Privateers?
- Tobias: Yes.
[a pause]
[]
- Tobias: We're here.
- Edward: I'll wait outside the Cavern.
- Tobias: Expect me, shortly.
- Edward: Lads, keep the Jackdaw out of Sight. Find us when we're done!
[]
- Edward: You stayed in this dank Place? Tell me there was somewhere to call Home before this.
- Tobias: There was an Island where I felt warmth. Contentment? I was a different man.
- Edward: We all were, Mate. What was this Island called?
[]
- Edward: How long must we wait?
- Tobias: They come after dark. It will be worth it. The Commander hungers for Power. My Guns sate his Appetite.
[]
- Edward: Two there. Careful, now.
[]
- British soldier 1: Where is the Commander?
- British soldier 2: Up ahead, on the Dock. Best not bother him, he's busy with his... Tests.
- British soldier 1: That's the problem. We're running out of Boxes for the Bodies.
- British soldier 2: I'm bettin' he goes for the left Arm on the next.
- British soldier 3: Jaysus, Man. Careful you don't take on the Commander's cruel indifference.
- British soldier 2: Or will it be an Eye?
- British soldier 3: You're hopeless.
[]
- Tobias: At last.
- Edward: So much for a quiet approach. Aim true, Smith!
[]
- Edward: Easy, Man! Christ!
- Tobias: A Debt was owed. No more.
[]
- Tobias: The Commander is ahead if I'm right.
- Edward: You don't seem too concerned with the Weapons. That's why we're here.
- Tobias: It is a hateful and wicked Bargain but it is ours.
- Edward: Smith, I took you to be caught in Death's Shadow. Now I see you're the one casting it.
[]
- Pirate: No, no! Please, I don’t want to go in there!
- British Officer 1: Shut your mouth and do what you're told.
[]
- Pirate: Tobias? Brother! It's you!
- Tobias: Hurry. The Ship outside. Go.
[]
- Tobias: On. Moving on. We must move on.
[]
- Commander Cyrus: Bring another one in and clear the Mess of the last.
- British Officer 2: There was a nice Ring on that one.
- Cyrus: Yes, leave it, that's mine.
- British Officer 2: Ugh, the Stench...
- Tobias: That's him.
[]
- British Officer 3: The Devil? Who are you?
- Tobias: Memory fading. Mind failing. What else?
- British Officer 3: Are you simple?
- British Officer 4: Why are you here? Filthy Rat!
- Tobias: Why am I here? No matter. What will I do? That is the Question.
- British Officer 5: Who are you? Stop!
- Tobias: A mere bag of Bones and Dust. As are we all. Let us hasten your Decay.
[]
- Cyrus: Who are you?
- Edward: He's yours, Smith.
- Cyrus: You.
[]
- Cyrus: What? All of this for some Flowers? Maybe I should have looked closer at you. And taken more.
[]
- Cyrus: You piece of Shit. That's all you are, Dirt and Water.
[]
- Cyrus: I broke you open and looked inside. And you know what I found? Nothing. You're empty. You're a Puppet! A Nobody! You're Nothing!
- Tobias: There is no Box dark enough. But this will do.
[]
- Edward: What? Not even a Smile? We exorcised your Demon! Live a little, Man.
- Tobias: He is gone. Yes. But the Shadow on my Soul remains.
[]
- Tobias: I need to see Crooked Island. There's a Village there. After that, the Mortars.
- Edward: Are there more parts you need at Crooked Island.
- Edward: What is it Smith? What is there that you need?
- Tobias: Love. Long dimmed, nearly gone. Not gone.
- Edward: We are bound for Crooked Island, then. But I need those Mortars to be set right after our visit.
All Love Must End
- Edward Kenway: Tell me about this Island we're headed to. Was it your Home?
[pause]
- Edward: All right, I'll go first.[beat] I came of age on a Farm. We are Shepherds, us Kenways. But I wanted more, for my Family... for me. So I took to the Seas, and here I am.
- Tobias Smith: I was born in Barbados. I've little Memory of it. Maybe I wasn't. Who can say now with all that's happened.
- Edward: And Crooked Island?
- Tobias: I stole away there as a Youth. Met my Wife. A sunny Place. Fine People. A different Time. A short Time. I fell in with some Pirates. It was them who taught me to use Firearms and Machines. Then the British came. One of their Raids. No warning. Men, Women, Children, no matter. Taken and gone. You know the rest.
- Edward: That's over now. Let's hope your Wife awaits your Return with open Arms.
- Tobias: It is Hope that's brought me the most Pain these last Years.
[]
- Edward: There it is, Crooked Island. There's Smoke.
- Tobias: Something's amiss.
[]
- Edward: English Ships.
- Tobias: A Raid. We must stop them.
- Edward: Lead on.
[]
- Portuguese civilian 1: Not my Son, please! Take me instead!
- British soldier 1: Shut your Mouth.
[fight]
- British soldier 2: Meddlesome Rats! Leave that one Alive, he'll fetch a Sum.
[]
- Portuguese civilian 1: Oh, thank you.
[]
- African civilian 1: Please, I am old.
- British soldier 3: You'll still fetch a Price.
[]
- African civilian 1: I owe you my Life.
[]
- African civilian 2: Mark, Mark! Wake up, Man!
- British soldier 4: Too late for Him. That should teach you lot to try to escape.
[]
- British soldier 5: You belong in the Fire!
[other fight]
- British soldier 6: Knaves! Off with you!
[]
- African civilian 2: Mark, my Friend, we're Saved! Please open your Eyes!
[]
- African civilian 3: Thank you, thank you!
[]
- Edward: Hah! They fled back to the Sea.
- Tobias: They will return.
- Edward: This place is safe, for now. Let's find your Home?
- Tobias: Yes.
- Edward: Lead the Way.
[]
- Edward: You're uneasy.
- Tobias: I don't know this place like I did. Not no more.
- Edward: It has been... some Years. Should I let you get on with it?
- Tobias: No. Come. I do not know if my Wife will remember me.
[]
- Edward: The House is in ruins. A Grave.
- Tobias: My Wife. May she rest.
[]
- Edward: She never forgot you.
- Tobias: She gave me this. "As long as they persist, so will we," she said. Flowers die, dry, and rot. I did not say it then. I failed her. All Love must end with one saying goodbye to the other. She was my Light. It is Darkness once more.
[]
- Edward: I have said goodbye to many Friends, Close and True. The Ache never leaves.
- Tobias: Upon my Death, bury me next to she is all I ask.
[]
- Tobias: Edward. Thank you. I know little of this World. Almost nothing. But I had to know my Wife's Fate.
- Edward: You can be a dark Cloud over calm Waters, Smith. But we'll put some Cheer on those Bones yet. It's been a pleasure to get to know you, Smith.
- Tobias: Thank you, Captain.
Very Little, But Something
- Tobias Smith: Captain.
- Edward Kenway: Smith. How are my Mortars coming?
- Tobias: The Materials I need have arrived at Great Inagua. We should go there.
[]
- Tobias: The Mortars are ready. They only need to be fitted.
- Edward: Good Man! It took some doing but I expect they'll be worth it.
- Tobias: The British Raiding Ships, those that remain, sail unopposed. I've learned of their Location.
- Edward: I see.
- Tobias: The Flame of my life may be snuffed out, but we can save others from that same Darkness.
- Tobias: The Ships were seen near Crooked Island. To finish what they started, I'd guess. Guesses, wagers... them all we have.
- Edward: These Mortars could do with some testing, anyway.
[]
- Edward: Fine work on these Mortars, Smith!
- Tobias: They too will someday fail you.
[]
- Tobias: There. The Ships.
- Edward: Time to put these Guns to the Test.
[]
- Edward: Haha! Now that's Power!
- Tobias: Just chemicals and Iron, Captain.
[]
- Tobias: Them Panic. Good.
- Edward: Load the Powder! Again!
[]
- Edward: Easy does it! Hah!
- Tobias: They will return to Darkness.
[]
- Edward: Another Wave! Prepare yourselves!
[]
- Edward: This is something!
[]
- Tobias: More ships, Captain.
- Edward: Let them come!
[]
- Edward: We've sailed through worse, Lads! Give them everything! I'll say it again, Smith, these Mortars are a Revelation!
[]
- Tobias: Leave only Crab food.
[]
- Edward: Well done, Smith.
- Jackdaw pirate: Nice work on them Cannons, Deadman!
- Edward: You can choose another Nickname if you’d prefer. The crew will respect it.
- Tobias: I'm fond of the name. A reminder of my Path.
- Edward: You've called down Thunder, Deadman. Your Guns will spread Fear across the Seas.
- Tobias: With so little to hold on to, it is something. Very little. But something. Almost nothing. Still, I'll cling to it.
A World Without Gold
That Bastard Maynard
- Edward Kenway: Quiet beach. Top Grog. A bleedin' House on a Hill. We'll be made soft and the Job's not done.
- Anne Bonny: It's treasure enough for some, Edward. You must keep that in sight.
- Edward: There's a Lot to keep in sight these Days. Thatch had it all figured, and look what it got him.
- Anne: That need not be your End.
[]
- Robert Maynard: The King of England loves Mulled wine. Do you have mulled wine at this... ...establishment? What makes it special is the addition of Nutmeg, you see. A spice our Majesty the King has delivered from the far East, for we, his Subjects, to enjoy.
[]
- Maynard: Let it not be said that those with Power cannot treat the Little People charitably.
- Edward: Ah...You'll find no little People here.
[]
- Edward: You must be lost, Mate.
- Maynard: Lost? On the contrary.
[]
- Maynard: I'm here with purpose; to offer this Boon from the King's Table as a gesture of his good Will. And with it a Chance for you, Edward Kenway, along with these other Pirates, to leave this place with your Lives. It's what Our Majesty the King, God save him, would prefer.
[]
- Maynard: Myself, I'm inclined to a more... Permanent Solution.
[]
- Maynard: I await your unconditional Surrender at Kingston.
[]
- Anne: Who was that Bastard?
- Edward: That was the bastard that killed Thatch.
[]
- Anne: Edward. A word... best in Private.
- Edward: My Quarters, then.
[]
- Edward: That bastard Pirate Hunter... his name's Lieutenant Robert Maynard, though I call him a few other things besides.
- Anne: Maynard's going to be a problem for us.
- Edward: That's his intention.
- Anne: There's been Redcoats everywhere since Thatch. Now that cocky Bastard walks in, bold as you please, and threatens us to our faces. Blackbeard would be turning in his Grave.
- Edward: Aye. I've been thinking on that.
[]
- Anne: What's your Plan for Maynard, then?
- Edward: I mean to go to Kingston, pay him a quiet visit.
- Anne: Getting there may not be easy. They say he's got a Warship tearing up Freebooters anywhere near the Place.
- Edward: The Jackdaw's Crew can hold their own in a Fight well enough.
- Anne: This is no ordinary Fight. Maynard's got the King's Navy behind him. And he hates us, you saw it. I think he hates you most of all.
- Edward: Even more Reason for me to go in quiet.
- Anne: Kingston then, just... be careful, Edward. We've lost Nassau. We can't lose Inagua too.
[]
Not Even a Real Captain
- Anne Bonny: Finding Maynard in Kingston will be like looking for a Needle in a Bottle of Hay.
- Edward Kenway: He's no shrinking Violet. He will have made certain everyone in Town knows he's there.
- Lucy Baldwin: I was only in Kingston once. It all got a bit blurry after the second Bottle.
- Abel Galvão: I know Kingston well enough. If you ask me, Maynard will be with his Military Friends on the western side.
[]
- Edward: That's a lot of soldiers for an old Barn. It looks like Padre was right.
[]
- British officer: This Lot here belongs to Lieutenant Maynard. I have a Letter in my Hand saying it goes out on the next Transport.
[]
- British officer: Report!
- British soldier: Sir! Transport has informed us there will be a delay.
- British officer: Well how long did they say! I'm not going to be the one to tell the Lieutenant he can't have his Stuff!
- British soldier: They didn't say, Sir!
- British officer: Damn it! What with the HMS Demolition getting away late for Eleuthera Today as well... You better hope that Transport arrives, or he'll have both our Heads.
- Edward: Blast! Maynard's not here. He's left for Eleuthera.
[]
- Edward: The Bastard's not even a real Captain.
[]
Database: Commander's Letter
- Edward: A Pirate Master Gunner. This could work in our favor.
[]
- Edward: Silverware from Thatch's Revenge, and his other Treasures. Maynard's been helping himself to Pirate Holds.
[]
- Edward: Anne will be wondering where I am.
[]
What the Devil!
- Edward Kenway: Maynard's left Kingston for a Rendezvous with his Fleet at Eleuthera.
- Anne Bonny: Damn! How do we find this Fleet, then?
- Edward: His Ship's the HMS Demolition. I expect he's also carrying a Master Gunner of some Note who'd welcome our liberation.
- Anne: A Master Gunner? With Luck we'll convince him to join us.
- Lucy Baldwin: We could do with a good Master Gunner, no offense to the Crew.
- Abel Galvão: A single Fleet is of no concern to us, even one with a Warship.
- Edward: If we're lucky Maynard will have his Warchest with him.
[]
- Anne: There's the Demolition! It's alone.
- Edward: It's close to Shore, and slow. I don't see a Fleet. This might be easier than I expected.
[]
- Edward: Keep on Lads! Let's get a look inside that Hold.
- Anne: The Warship's breaking off!
- Edward: Sod it all! We can't see anything in this Murk! They're trying to get to open Water, and use the Demolition's size to Advantage.
[]
- Anne: Here's the rest of the Fleet!
[]
- Lucy: God damn it! I just patched those sails!
[]
- Galvão: They're near ready to board!
[]
- Edward: Over we go, Lads! Secure the Hold!
- Anne: Find Maynard!
- Galvão: Take the Helm! Where's Lieutenant Maynard?
[]
[]
- Lucy: Man to man, just how I like it!
[]
- Lucy: I don't think Maynard's here.
[]
- Jackdaw pirate 1: There's no Sign of Maynard, or a Master Gunner. The Hold was empty as a Drum except for this. It's heavy, too.
- Edward: Do you hear that? Open it.
[]
- Jackdaw pirate 1: Blow me down! There's a Man inside.
- Anne: What the Devil?
- Edward: Get him out. Take the poor Sod to my Quarters, and get him something to eat and drink.
[]
- Anne: I've never seen anything like that in all my Days.
- Edward: We need to know what happened here. I'll be keen to hear him tell it, when he's able.
[]
- Anne: First Kingston, now this. It's almost like Maynard knows we're looking for him.
- Edward: He's sly, that's certain. Has there been no News of him at all?
- Anne: Some, but it's not good. Word is the Lieutenant expected to be made Captain after he killed Blackbeard. He wasn't. So now he's got a Fire in his Belly, and means to hunt every Pirate out of the West Indies... beginning with you, Edward.
- Edward: That explains the Fleet I suppose.
- Anne: There's more. The Demolition's Log has a list of Ships. A lot of Ships. And Maps. Maynard's planning something big.
[]
- Tobias Smith: He's building an Armada. And a great Warship.
- Edward: How do you know this?
- Tobias: He wanted me... Master Gunner...
- Anne: This one's the Master Gunner?
- Edward: Whoever he is, he won't last long on the Ship. We have to get him back to Inagua.
- Anne: Inagua's as good a Course as any. We can figure what to do next when we're there.
[]
- Edward: There was nothing on the Demolition but that poor Devil in the Box.
[]
- Jackdaw pirate 2: Did you see that poor Bastard? We've put him in the Captain's Cabin, but he looks more dead than alive.
- Jackdaw pirate 3: I've seen enough to know his insides is all broke up. He's a dead man, all right.
- Jackdaw pirate 2: Deadman eh? That's a hell of a nickname for him if he lives.
- Jackdaw pirate 3: And well earned.
- Lucy: Have some pity. It's an evil Bastard that locks a man in a Box.
It's a Start
- Anne Bonny: I never tire of the Sight of this Place.
- Edward Kenway: Aye. The one the Crew are calling Deadman is still alive at least. Some time on our Island might agree with him.
- Anne: I don't care for that Nickname.
- Edward: When he's able to tell me, I'll get his proper Name and his Story.
[]
- Anne: This is nice. It's good to see the Crew at Ease. I expect there'll be precious little of it ahead.
- Edward: If that poor Sod's correct and Maynard's building an Armada, I'd wager you're right.
- Anne: We've a brave Crew, but we don't stand a chance against an entire Armada. I'll put Word out. When we know where Maynard is, we take him before he has the Advantage.
- Edward: I'd like to know more of his Purpose first, find out what he's planning.
- Anne: You don't fool me, Edward Kenway. You want to figure out a way to get your Hands on his Gold.
- Edward: And why not? We can deal with the Bastard, Rob him Blind and make ourselves rich at the same time. Thatch would approve.
- Anne: Oh, that's sly! Thatch indeed! I'll tell you why not. The longer we take, the more dangerous Maynard becomes.
- Edward: I'm afraid you speak Truth, Anne. Let me talk to my Officers.
- Anne: Don't take too long.
[]
- Abel Galvão: Captain! I could use your aid in carrying this Rum. The Crew has the thirst of Whales, and they're not the most patient Lot.
- Edward: You should take it to the Men yourself. There are few things that earn their Respect more than Rum.
- Galvão: Respect is for the Captain. Fear better suits a Master-at-Arms. But I'm glad for your help. I had a terrible weakness for Rum once. I won't be partaking myself.
- Edward: Devil take me, you're a Pirate man!
[]
- Edward: The man we pulled out of that Box was being pressed into Crew by Maynard. He's building an Armada.
- Galvão: If true, that is not good News, Captain. We won't survive against an Armada. Few could.
- Edward: Aye. I was hoping my Master-at-Arms might have some thoughts about what we could do about it.
- Galvão: I may. Let me think on it.
[]
- Galvão: My thanks for your help, Captain. Just here will do. The men will find it.
[]
- Jackdaw pirate 1: I'm weary of chasing our Tails across the Seas, looking for a Fight that could be our last.
- Jackdaw pirate 2: I don't mind if there's pay at the end of it. But it's been too long, that's certain.
- Jackdaw pirate 1: The Captain and Quartermaster are to blame. Blackbeard's gone. Finding this Lieutenant Maynard won't bring him back.
- Jackdaw pirate 2: Aye. If they want revenge, take as many fat Merchant ships as we can, I say. That's what Blackbeard would want.
[]
- Jackdaw pirate 1: Leave off Lads! It's the Master at Arms.
- Galvão: No no! Don't stop on my Account! If you want to fight, fight us! What say you, Captain? Care to test your Grit against your own Men?
- Edward: Let's just try not to damage them permanently. We need them able.
- Jackdaw pirate 2: You heard the Captain, Lads! No permanent Damage. That don't mean we can't make 'em hurt!
[]
- Jackdaw pirate 3: Oh, that don't look Good! Get one back! Put your shoulders into it!
- Jackdaw pirate 3: They can't take all of us!
- Edward: Pull your Weight, Master at Arms! You've got me doing all the Work.
- Galvão: Keep up the Talk, Captain. I'll let my Fists speak for me.
[]
- Edward: Looks an even Fight now. I can finish it if you're winded.
- Galvão: If it's all the same to you, I'll see it through.
[]
- Galvão: Nice Hook, Captain!
- Edward: It's the Jab that does the real work!
- Galvão: A good Contest, and an agreeable End! My thanks for your help, Captain.
- Edward: You're a cheeky Sod.
[]
- Lucy Baldwin: Get up you Swabs! Let's see which of you can shoot to save yourselves. What about you, Captain? Think you can best me?
[]
- Lucy: Walk with me, Captain.
- Edward: Where to, Shipwright?
- Lucy: You'll see.
[]
- Edward: The Crew is calling the one we pulled out of that Box "Deadman". They say he's likely an uncommon Criminal.
- Lucy: The same could be said of any of us, and has been at every Establishment I've visited... or the ones I remember.
- Edward: Some are afraid he's afflicted with a spreading Sickness, a Plague.
- Lucy: I say the only Sickness lies with those who locked him in that damned Box.
[]
- Edward: What have we here?
[]
- Lucy: The Rules are easy. I call out a group of Dummies. You hit the ones I call. You keep doing that 'til I stop. Got it? Let's start.
[]
[]
- Edward: Deadman's said Maynard was pressing him into service for an Armada he's building.
- Lucy: An Armada? Christ! He'd need a lot of coin for that.
- Edward: A thought that's crossed my Mind as well.
[]
[]
- Lucy: If Maynard's got that kind of Coin, there'll be a Big Wig with a Ledger close behind him. There always is.
[]
[]
- Edward: Aye. If I find this Treasurer, I might find his Gold. Maynard can't build an Armada if he can't pay for it.
- Lucy: Find Maynard's Gold to stop the Armada. Right.
[]
- Lucy: Just the kind of shooting that might win you the Competition.
[]
- Lucy: Speaking of the Deadman, last I saw he was heading to the Beach, and didn't look well.
[]
- Tobias "Deadman" Smith: I'm here.
- Edward: Is that Hole for someone you know?
- Tobias: The Grave is for me.
- Edward: Come now. It looks as if our Island is doing you some Good.
- Tobias: Appearance only. My Wounds won't be cured. I will be dead soon.
- Edward: You say you are dying, I say we all chance Death at every Turn. I'm in need of a Master Gunner with your Skill. Join us, for as little or as long as may be. You might live longer than you expect.
- Tobias: That is True.
- Edward: But I should know your real Name. I can't have my Master Gunner answering to "Deadman".
- Tobias: Tobias. My Name was Tobias Smith.
- Edward: Smith, then. Now let's get back to the others. I do not share your fondness for... Graves.
[]
- Galvão: Hear me, all! Gather round!
- Jackdaw pirate 4: Let's hear a word from our Captain!
- Edward: You all know our Purpose is to find Maynard, and relieve him of both Life and Fortune.
- Jackdaw pirate 5: Sack the Bastard!
- Edward: He is canny, and our Task is neither simple nor easy. But we have his Measure. Maynard's building an Armada against us. That takes a lot of Coin. If we find the one who keeps his Ledger, we can stop his Gold. Shipwright, here's your Chance to even the Score with the Lobcock for locking you up. Search out this Treasurer. Send Word when you find him.
- Lucy: I'll get him.
- Edward: To our Master-at-Arms falls the Task of the Armada itself, a Problem for which I confess I have no Answer.
- Galvão: To this I have already given some Thought. I ask your leave to go to my old Spanish Crew at Santanillas, and gain their Aid.
- Edward: You have it. Only be sure of their good Faith. In looking for Friends, we don't want to increase our Enemies. Last, I am happy to tell you that the good repair of the Armaments rests with our new Master Gunner, Mister Smith. I am assured he is well suited to the Task. We can but take him at his Word, and prove him, false or true. With that, I declare the Jackdaw and her Crew ready. What say you, Quartermaster?
- Anne: It's a Start. And a good one! So say I!
I Just Want To Talk
- Jackdaw pirate: Captain! We got Word the Shipwright found Maynard's Treasurer. She's awaiting us at Nassau.
[]
- Edward Kenway: Nassau. Redcoats everywhere.
[]
- Lucy Baldwin: Captain! You took your time. I'm drunk.
[]
- Lucy: We were right. Maynard does have a Treasurer, and he's had the Cojones (balls) to show up at Nassau.
- Edward Kenway: It burns me to see the Place like this, swarming with Redcoats.
- Lucy: As you see, Maynard's recruiting. His Big Wig's here offering Gold to all who join him.
- Edward: It's not a bad Likeness.
- Lucy: I wager he's paying more than you. I might sign up myself.
- Edward: I'll go and find this Treasurer before you do. Meet back at the Jackdaw when you're done drinking.
- Lucy: Maybe one more, then.
[]
- Treasurer: The Captain barely even takes to Sea. He's soft, and likes the Comforts of his Lodgings too well. Who took Blackbeard? It wasn't the Captain, as we all know. It was Lieutenant Maynard, and he did it alone. Think on that. And while you do, consider that the Lieutenant is generous to those who serve him.

Database: Letter From Maynard
- Edward: Oh, this is good! Maynard's moved his Warchest. Back to the Jackdaw.
[]
- Edward: The Treasurer was uncooperative, but he carried a Letter from Maynard. It mentions a Villa he keeps at the... Beckford Estate.
- Lucy: I know it. That's at Tortuga. I went there once with Grandad. Nice. It's not Black Island, mind...
- Edward: He's moved his Warchest there, and he's gone somewhere else. It's unguarded.
- Lucy: Our Quartermaster's not going to like this.
- Edward: Mum's the Word, then. She'll come around when she sees the Gold.
- Lucy: I might not have to join Maynard to get Paid after all.
[]
- Edward: My Master-at-Arms will be waiting at Santanillas.
[]
- Tobias Smith: Cannons upgraded. Them fire not once, but twice.
- Edward: I see your Renown is earned! Do you never sleep, Smith?
- Tobias: My long sleep is coming.
