Lothian was a Templar operative who worked as an overseer at Abstergo Industries' secret facility at Hallen's Bluff in the late 21st century. By 2096, he was later promoted to Zone Chief of Staff.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Around 2081, Lothian worked as a security supervisor with Abstergo, as he was part of a secret project for Abstergo. He was tasked to manage its two vital scientists, Dr. Cayetano Ortiz and Dr. Junko Maeda. To improve progress on the project, he teamed Ortiz and Maeda together, which led Ortiz to keep Maeda focused towards the Templars' ultimate goal. Updating his superior and fellow Templar, Director Arlan Ospanov,[1] he noted extreme progress and saw how the AI was able to rectify the Bleeding Effect and take control of its initiative. Thanking the director, he asked for limited human trials but also addressed caution to contain the AI's alterations within the genetic memories.[2]
Still concerned, Lothian reported that despite the growing success of the project, he noted that Maeda had been feeding her own data sets into the AI, possibly polluting their efforts.[3] However, Ospanov retorted that he knew Maeda would do this and how it had little consequence. Nevertheless, Ospanov eased his concerns and had Lothian deploy keylogging protocols for Maeda while giving permission for Sunita Ortiz to give Cayetano a home-cooked meal at the beginning of every month.[4]
Still feeling worried, Lothian soon went to voice his concerns to the Council, but Ospanov reassured him that Maeda's interference was not of any concern and how they will plan for the Assassins' eventual infiltration.[5] After some consideration, Ospanov ordered Lothian to lower the security protocols, hoping for the AI to be set free and experience humanity in order for it to grow with their principles intact.[6] However, the AI, Ego, had already prepared to free Maeda and Ortiz by deleting certain files and audio and creating limited in-roads before the security protocol change.[7]
Meanwhile, Cayetano obtained a cloned keycard from Lothian's personal effects.[8]. With the card, Junko was allowed access to the server room and then released Ego into the Animus[9]. As a result, Ego aided the Assassins by creating an escape corridor, cutting off cameras, and locking off door, giving the Assassins an easier time to rescue Ortiz and Maeda from the facility. As a result, Ego had been set free into the Animus[10] while Director Ospanov was held solely responsible and dismissed from his position.[11]
In 2096, Lothian had been promoted to Zone Chief of Staff.[12]
