Whiskey (Classical Gaelic: uisce, lit. "water") is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain,[1] most commonly rye.[2]

History[edit | edit source]

In the 9th century, whiskey was indulged in many areas of Europe, such as England and Scotland.[3] In fact, Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan helped a brewer in Dunvegan Village prepare his "newfound" drink with his listed ingredients while her visit to the Isle of Skye.[4] By the 18th century, whiskey had become a popular choice of alcohol among the European colonists in the Americas.[5][6]
