Oxford (Old English: Oxeneforda) is the largest city in and the namesake of Oxfordshire, England. It is notably home to the University of Oxford, the second-oldest university in the world.
Founded in the 8th century, Oxford was only a small town during the Great Heathen Army's invasion of England. In the 870s, the town blacksmith Patrick, a secret Order of the Ancients member, was assassinated by the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, one such invading Viking.[1]
