The scroll motif suggests Greco-Roman and Persian influence. The decoration clearly indicates that this is the right chest. As you move closer, you can see the servant is missing a finger. Despite your insight, the servants are about to leave the Bazaar by the time you reach them. You must quickly find a way to take the Astrolabe piece!

DTMB
- Greetings, Hidden One.
In the shadows of the Round City of Baghdad, the 'City of Peace', we have need of your talents. We need you to gather lost pieces of an astronomical instrument called an Astrolabe. It is said that this Astrolabe will guide the bearer on a path to an invaluable treasure hidden somewhere in the desert around Baghdad. If you can locate this treasure, it will give us the resources needed for our fight against the Order of the Ancients.
Your mission: Acquire the pieces of the Astrolabe, assemble them to discern a path, and find the hidden treasure.
We work in the dark to serve the light.
The Hidden Ones.
Byzantine Ambassador
Abbasiyah Bureau
An ambassador from the Byzantine Empire has arrived in the city. He plans to give a piece of the Astrolabe as one of his gifts to the Caliph. Our informant says that the piece will be in a small Abbasid style chest carried by a servant with a missing finger. Gain access to the chest as they go through the Bazaar and replace the piece inside with something suitable before it reaches the Caliphal palace. Just be careful to avoid creating a diplomatic incident!

The Target
The noise and commotion of the Bazaar make it the perfect place to act. A small contingent of servants belonging to the Byzantine Ambassador are weaving their way through the bustle of the Bazaar, each carrying a different item. However, you cannot tell from a distance which servant is missing a finger. You must identify the correct chest before your chance to get the Astrolabe piece is gone.
This is a traditional and simple design. The chest is too plain to be the one you are after. Finding the chest with the ornate Abbasid scroll motifs takes you time and the servants are about to leave the Bazaar by the time you reach them. That was close!
Perhaps the piece is hiding in plain sight. As you get closer, you can see that the carrier is not a servant but a merchant carrying a basket of goods to a stall in the Bazaar. This is clearly the wrong chest. Locating the correct target, the chest with scroll motifs, takes you time and means the servants have almost left the Bazaar by the time you catch up with them. That was close!
The Distraction
The Byzantine Ambassador and the servant carrying the Astrolabe piece are almost out of the busy crowd, reducing your chances of covertly obtaining the piece. How will you gain access to the chest?
Pose as an assistant to the Market Inspector. Concerned he will be fined if he does not obey your instructions, the servant opens the chest for your examination, immediately and without any questions. That was the perfect choice!
Trip the servant carrying the chest and gain access to it by helping him to pick it up. The servant falls, and the plan works. However, a corner of the chest gets damaged! Hopefully the Caliph will not notice. That was a very risky choice, posing as an assistant to the Market Inspector would have been more effective.
Snatch the chest from the servant, run, and have it returned once you have taken the piece of the Astrolabe You are chased through the Bazaar and only just manage to escape. Your improvisational skills may have worked but that was risky. Masquerading as an assistant to the Market Inspector would have been less suspicious.
The Replacement
You slip the Astrolabe piece out of the chest and hide it in your clothing. Earlier you stole three possible items to replace it with from a perfume stall in the Qaysariyya. Knowing that the replacement needs to be a rare and expensive gift fit for a Caliph, which of the three do you choose?
Powdered Camphor Bark will impress with its deep dark scent. This rare fragrance from far away lands is exotic and highly desirable. The Caliph will be delighted with this gift!
Myrrh will bewitch with its rich resinous scent. Arabia has produced Myrrh since ancient times and it is easily obtained. The Caliph will not be impressed by this gift. The rare Camphor powder would have been more fitting for the Caliph.
Balsalm will intrigue with its familiar sharp scent. Arabia has produced Balsam since ancient times and it is easily obtained. The Caliph will not be impressed by this gift. The exotic Camphor powder would have been more fitting for the Caliph.
Outcome
That was skillfully done! The Hidden Ones are pleased, and the Caliph will be too.
The mission was successful, but you need to be more cunning on future missions.
The mission was more difficult than expected and there may be diplomatic issues. Let us hope the Caliph is in a good mood today!
Mission Completed! You managed to collect an Astrolabe piece, well done Hidden One! The Hidden Ones have further missions for you. You must continue your vital work towards collecting all the pieces of the Astrolabe!
My Brother's Keeper
Harbiyah Bureau
A member of the Hidden Ones was careless while returning from a mission to gather a piece of the Astrolabe and was imprisoned for thievery. Hopefully he has managed to hide the Astrolabe piece on his person. It is up to you to salvage the operation; you must infiltrate the prison and get your Hidden One Brother out at once.

Gaining Entry
The prison is highly secure. Although it would not be too difficult for you to slip inside undetected, getting your Brother out will not be so straightforward. Your best bet is to go in disguised as someone who would have the authority to remove an inmate from the prison.
Pose as a Qadi, here to pass judgement on the innocence of the prisoner. The guards at the prison gate jump to allow you quick entry as a Qadi has sufficient authority to refute Caliphal law. When you declare your Brother innocent, none of the guards dare to challenge you. A Qadi is the perfect disguise!
Pose as a Shurta, here to take the prisoner away for execution. The guards at the gate allow you entry, but ask why someone in prison for theft should face execution. If you had posed as a Qadi, you would have had enough power to remove the prisoner without facing a challenge from the guards. You may have to answer more questions on your way out.
Pose as a Ghulam, here to take the prisoner out, and not to answer questions! Your lack of authority as a soldier means the guards feel able to question you further. This would not have arisen had you posed as a Qadi. The guards begrudgingly allow you to enter the prison but mutter about checking with superiors.
Through the Prison
Once inside the prison one of the guards begins to escort you to where your Brother is being held. He asks you what crime the prisoner you have come for committed - what do you tell him?
Just tell the guard the truth, you don't want to complicate matters. The guard nods and continues walking, agreeing that most prisoners are either debtors, thieves or both. He doesn't appear to have any suspicions regarding you yet. Mixing a little truth into a lie makes it more believable, that was the right decision.
If you make the prisoner sound important the guard might get you to him faster. The guard takes you to the Mutbaq - a terrifying series of deep wells with important prisoners at the bottom of each of them. This detour costs you more time, you should have just told the guard the truth! You manage to backtrack, telling the guard he must have misheard, but he is looking at you suspiciously now, you will need to be more careful.
If you make the prisoner sound dangerous the guard might stop questioning you. The guard accuses you of being a fraud, since murderers are not imprisoned, they are executed! You are forced to knock out his guard and find another to help you reach your Brother. You should have just told the truth!
The Piece
When you finally reach your Brother and free him from his restraints, he stands shakily on a broken leg. He whispers that the Astrolabe piece is gone, stolen from him by a guard as he was arrested - the same guard who is waiting to escort you both out! How will you get the piece back?
The guard does not know the importance of the piece; he just wants to sell it for a couple of coins. Guards are underpaid and supplement their income by stealing from prisoners. He hands over the piece of Astrolabe. You are confident that the guard will keep quiet because he will want to stay out of trouble for theft. That was tactfully done.
Hopefully the guard won't notice the theft until after you leave the prison. You manage to steal the piece from the guard on your way out of the prison. Unfortunately, he soon notices it was missing and starts searching for it - you had better leave the prison immediately. Perhaps you should have paid him for it instead.
Hopefully you can find your way out without his help. You succeed in incapacitating the guard and snatching the piece, but finding your way out takes longer without a guide and arouses suspicion. Paying the guard would have held less risk.
Outcome
That was skillfully executed. The guards seemed unaware that all was not as usual today.
The guards appeared suspicious as you left, but they did let you pass through with the prisoner. That was close!
An alarm was raised as you were about to leave the prison and you had to run. You escaped, but your fellow Hidden One's leg was injured further in the pursuit, and he may not be able to serve the Hidden Ones again for a long time.
Mission Completed! You left the prison with both your Hidden One Brother and another piece of Astrolabe. You did well! You should prepare yourself for the Hidden Ones' next mission. The Astrolabe is of the utmost importance, you must continue to retrieve the pieces."

Karkh Bureau
A collector of precious art wishes to acquire a Tiraz but cannot do so through normal avenues due to restrictions imposed by the Caliph. He has acquired a piece of the Astrolabe and is willing to hand it over in trade if we can provide him with a Tiraz. According to the Bureau, the Caliph just gifted a Tiraz to the Byzantine Ambassador. Follow the Ambassador, find out where the Tiraz is kept, and take it before the Ambassador leaves Baghdad.

The Art Collector noted that the Tiraz appears to have been slightly damaged, he suggested that the Hidden Ones may wish to choose a more careful agent for future item retrieval missions.
The Art Collector complained that the Tiraz has been badly damaged during collection. He added that if the Hidden Ones cannot take care when handling irreplaceable items, then this may be the last time he agrees to work with them.
Mission Completed! You successfully obtained a Tiraz for the Art Collector, who gives the Hidden Ones his piece of the Astrolabe as payment. Well done! You have collected another piece of the Astrolabe! You mustn't lose momentum. Get started on your next mission as soon as you can.
The Road Most Travelled
Sharqiyah Bureau
It is the beginning of the Lunar calendar and we must increase our efforts to assemble the Astrolabe. The Hidden Ones have received information that an Astrolabe piece has just left the city with a Barid (Postal System) courier. Once he reaches the Caravanserai traveling the Silk Road through the Zagros Mountain pass, the courier will give the piece to an unknown agent of the Order of the Ancients and it will be lost to us. You must reach the Caravanserai quickly and obtain the Astrolabe piece before it moves beyond our grasp - go now!

This mission took a toll on you - it will take a few days to recover before you are able to find more pieces of the Astrolabe.
Mission Completed! You return to the city with another Astrolabe piece. You did well not to let that one escape your grasp! As soon as you have recovered from this mission you should prepare yourself for the next. You can rest fully when the Astrolabe is complete and not before - it is too important.
The Caliph, the Thief, his Wife, and her Baby
Abbasiyah Bureau
A mysterious woman has solicited the Bureau through a confidential note. She says she is a wife among the Caliph's Harem, has recently given him an heir, and is now in terrible trouble. Should we agree to help her, she will give us a piece of the Astrolabe in thanks. An alarm was raised as you were leaving, you were chased out of the Harem at a sprint. As you rounded a corner, you slipped, and the piece of Astrolabe falls to the ground with a clatter. You snatch it up and continue running, hoping desperately that it was not damaged.
Mission Completed! You managed to leave the Harem carrying a piece of the Astrolabe. That was well done. One more piece of the device is safely in your hands. You should prepare yourself for retrieving the next one. Good work!
The Music of the Garden
Harbiyah Bureau
The teacher at a notable school for Qiyan (Singing Girls) has secretly approached the Hidden Ones offering to give us an Astrolabe piece as payment if we can help her school to win a poetry, debating and music contest against a rival school. The teacher wishes someone to hide in the gardens and secretly help her student during the competition. You must go to the Majlis (Intellectual Salon) in the Caliph’s gardens and attempt to help the Qiyan to win the contest. Good luck!

The Gardens
You manage to enter the gardens and hide amongst the bushes beside a broken fountain. You have carefully placed yourself to be able to whisper to the performer. Now there is nothing to do but wait... Unfortunately, you doze off in the heat, next thing you know a gardener has tripped over you and fallen sprawling. What do you do?
Tell him that you are an engineer, here to fix the fountain. The gardener nods approvingly and says it is about time someone came to look at it. He advises you to be quick, since guests will soon be arriving for the contest. That was the perfect excuse!
Tell him you are a new gardener, here to help him. The gardener looks at you unconvinced. He ushers you away because the contest is about to start. By the time you have evaded him the contest is about to begin! Telling him you are an engineer would have been more believable.
Tie him up in the bushes. You succeed in concealing the restrained gardener among his own plants just as the first guests start to arrive for the contest. You can only hope he won't wake up during the contest and ruin the mission. Telling him you are an engineer would have been less risky.
The Debate
The debate begins and your Qiyan steps forward, looking apprehensive as she stands opposite a girl from the rival school. The assessor asks them both to name an animal from Al-Jahiz's enormous 'Book of Animals' which they identify with and say why. The girl needs your help with what she should say - what do you whisper to her?
Whisper that she is like a falcon - graceful and efficient. As the Qiyan confidently repeats what you said, adding that she flies swiftly to protect good and resist evil, while honoring the Caliph. The crowd claps enthusiastically and the girl smiles, she seems convinced herself, you did well.
Whisper that she is like a donkey - noble and strong. The Qiyan calmly repeats what you said, adding that she is strong enough to carry the Caliph to the heights of the tallest dome in the city. The crowd claps politely and the girl smiles. However, her rival compares herself to a falcon and that receives an even warmer response.
Whisper that she is like a monkey - mischievous and unruly. As you whisper to the girl you realize the Caliph will not want a Qiyan to describe herself as unruly or mischievous, but by then it is too late. As the Qiyan repeats what you said, the audience seems confused by her response. The girl stares at the floor as her rival compares herself to a falcon and receives adulation from the crowd. That did not go well.
The Music
Now it is time for the musical part of the contest. Your Qiyan performs a beautiful piece of music with obvious skill. However, her rival begins to play a strange new instrument in a performance that is even better. You notice a tiny suspicious wisp of steam or smoke coming from the instrument being played by the Qiyan's rival. What do you do?
Whisper to your Qiyan that her rival is cheating and point out the steam. Your Qiyan stands up in the middle of her rival's performance and accuses her of cheating by using an automatic steam-powered instrument. The rival starts shouting angrily, and as she does the instrument falls to the floor releasing an enormous cloud of steam. The crowd gasps in shock at the revelation and voices its disapproval.
Whisper urgently to your Qiyan that her rival's robes seem to have caught fire. Your Qiyan runs to fetch water from one of the fountains and throws it over her rival, who shouts in shock! The contest dissolves into absolute uproar. As you leave you realize the \u201csmoke\u201d may have actually been steam from an automatic steam-powered instrument which the rival was using to cheat.
It was probably just a trick of the light. The rival finishes playing, and although your Qiyan's performance was undoubtedly masterful, there is no doubt that this strange instrument sounded sweeter still. It is only afterwards that you realize the steam might have indicated that the strange instrument was not being played at all but was automatic and steam-powered.
Outcome
The teacher congratulated you on your superb performance, smiling broadly. Her Qiyan school won the contest and the girl you helped will likely be promoted as a result.
The teacher was pleased to say that her Qiyan school won the contest, however she was not entirely sure that it was thanks to your efforts. She handed over the piece of the Astrolabe but suggested that the Bureau superiors may wish to consider using another agent for future missions.
The teacher decided to give us the piece as promised, because you did attempt to help, all be it clumsily. She adds that her Qiyan school lost the contest and the girl you attempted to help has been thrown out of school. You cannot help but feel responsible for the girl's fate.
Mission completed! The teacher comes to the Bureau to give us her piece of the Astrolabe, it looks as though you did enough to convince her! You have another piece of the puzzle, but not all of them. You cannot afford to diminish your efforts, you must continue to hunt the Astrolabe pieces down.
The Quick and the Dead
Karkh Bureau
The Bureau has heard that an agent from the Order of the Ancients has managed to locate and steal a piece of the Astrolabe. While attempting to escape, the enemy agent was injured and is now in the Bimaristan (hospital). You must make your way into the hospital and retrieve the piece of Astrolabe before it gets passed on to another member of the Order of the Ancients.

The Agent
You make your way to the hospital and it does not take you long to find the room the enemy agent was taken to. But there is a nurse outside the room who stops you from entering and asks who you are. What do you say?
Tell them you are related to the injured man, here to comfort him. The nurse's eyes are full of sympathy as she explains that the injured man has unfortunately passed away and been taken to another part of the hospital to be prepared for burial. You know where to go next, that was the perfect excuse.
Tell them you are a physician, here to tend to the injured man. The nurse looks at you skeptically, mutters that she does not recognize you, then tells you that the injured man unfortunately died and has been taken away for burial rites. It's clear that the nurse doubts you and it will not be long before she tells someone. Telling her you were family would have been more straightforward.
You don't have time for this, just push past her. As you push past her colleague rushes over, demanding that you apologize and telling you that the injured man has passed away so he will not be here anyway. You leave having drawn many suspicious looks. Using the nurse's sympathy would have been a better idea.
The Burial Rite
You arrive outside a second room to find a nervous looking student, who asks if you are there to supervise the burial ritual for the deceased. You reassure the student that that is precisely why you are there and enter the room with him. Inside is a cloth, a bowl of water, the enemy agent's body, and a small pile of his belongings. The student asks what he should do?
Tell him to wash and then wrap the body an odd number of times. The student nods and performs the burial ritual faultlessly. He tells you he will go and inform the family they can collect the body. With the student gone you are free to look through the enemy's belongings, but you may not have long until he returns.
Tell him to wash and then wrap the body an even number of times. The student looks at you suspiciously and says he thinks that it is supposed to be an odd number. He finishes the ritual and leaves the room. You hurry to look through the agent's belongings as it's almost certain that the student now knows that you are not who you said you were.
Reprimand the student for not remembering the ritual himself. You demand that if the student cannot remember the ritual, he should leave. Backing out of the room, he says the body should be washed and wrapped an odd number of times, he just wanted to check. You frantically look through the enemy agent's belongings, you probably only have seconds until someone comes to investigate the raised voices.
The Physician
You search the agent's belongings in vain - the piece of Astrolabe is not there! Then the door opens and a physician enters examining the piece of the Astrolabe you are searching for. He appears to be a Dhimmi (non-Muslim). You tell him you are a scholar of astronomy and this recently deceased man had an important item of yours which you have come to retrieve. The physician looks skeptical and asks you to prove you are a scholar. He asks what is the shape of the Earth?
Tell him every good scholar knows the Earth is spherical. He smiles and hands you the Astrolabe peice, patting you on the shoulder and apologizing for doubting you. He holds the door open for you to leave and you walk out of the hospital without any trouble. That was smoothly done.
Demand to know what this man is doing working in the hospital as a non-Muslim. The physician looks angry and answers that there are many Dhimmis working in the hospital, the Caliph has need of their expertise. He recognizes that he lacks authority and thrusts the piece of Astrolabe at you before storming off. Perhaps answering that you know the Earth to be round might have been a more scholarly move.
Tell him every good scholar knows the Earth is flat.",image:{src:r(d[110])},outcome:"He frowns, saying that all scholars would know that Ptolemy showed that the Earth is spherical. He accuses you of being a thief and a liar and you are forced to make a desperate grab for the piece and run!
Outcome
You strolled out of the Hospital, casual and calm. You knew there would be no pursuit, the hospital staff had completely accepted you as one of them. The Bureau is impressed by your skillful execution of this mission.
You left the Hospital checking regularly over your shoulder, expecting to hear people coming after you. You weren't as effective during this mission as you are known to have been in the past.
The hospital staff, made aware that an intruder was disturbing patients, chased you out. The news of the disturbance reached the Hidden Ones Bureau before you did.
Mission completed! You managed to leave the hospital with an Astrolabe piece! You must continue to gather pieces of the Astrolabe; however difficult it may prove. This task must take precedence over all others.
Dine Like a Prince
Sharqiyah Bureau
The Bureau has received information that the Wali Al Ahd (Heir apparent) has knowledge of the whereabouts of another piece of the Astrolabe. He is holding a dinner party this evening. You must attend to find out more. The Bureau has already managed to obtain an invitation for you, just make sure you blend in.

The Food
Hours later, you are in the Heir apparent's quarters. You cunningly ensure that you are sat next to the Heir apparent. He is saying that he feels the Umayyads are getting too bold when a huge tray of food is brought for everyone to share. The servant moves to place it on a low table. What will you do?
Perhaps this might show restraint and good manners. You agree with the Heir apparent about the Umayyads and wait patiently for the servant to place the food down. The other guests around you do the same and the Heir apparent smiles at you. You have done well so far.
Perhaps this might show how eager you are to enjoy the food. Your hand almost knocks the platter out of the servant's hands. You hear one of the guests grumpily call you a "pot-picker" and can see the Heir apparent frowning at you. You should have waited for the servant to put the platter down.
Perhaps this might show how delicious you expect the food to be. You lick your fingers ostentatiously and take some food. Several of the guests make loud noises of disgust and the Heir apparent frowns. That was a big mistake, it would have been better to just wait patiently.
The Information
The dinner party is going well, you notice that some of the other guests are sneaking alcohol into their cups when they think the Wali Al Ahd cannot see. The Heir apparent appears relaxed and mentions that he found a piece of some sort of fascinating astrological device while exploring Samarra recently. When you ask him where the piece is now he changes the subject. How will you convince him to tell you where the piece is?
Start telling the Heir apparent a gripping story, then say you will only finish it if he tells you where the Astrolabe piece is. You tell an exciting story and, inspired by the One Thousand and One Nights, pause on a cliffhanger. The Heir apparent is desperate to hear what happens next and you insist on hearing about the astrological device in exchange. Laughing he says there is not much to tell and that the Astrolabe piece is inside a lustreware jar in the next room. That worked brilliantly! At the end of the party you slip silently into the next room.
Perhaps it might loosen the Heir apparent's tongue if you offer him some alcohol. The Heir apparent looks insulted and refuses the alcohol, saying that while some here might flout Islamic Law, he will certainly not partake. When he irritatedly turns away from you the guest next to you winks at your bold offering and lets you know that he has seen what you seek; the Astrolabe piece is in a lustreware jar in the next room. You make your exit, ignored by an offended Heir apparent, and slip silently into the next room.
It might be possible to use intimidation to get the information. You lean sideways and whisper to the Heir apparent that there will be painful trouble for him if he does not tell you where the piece is. The Wali Al Ahd looks frightened, quietly replies that the piece is in the next room inside a lustreware jar. As soon as you exit you hear the Heir apparent shouting for the guards! You only have moments to find the Astrolabe piece.
The Jar
You enter the next room; you only have moments to identify the lustreware jar and take the Astrolabe piece. There are three jars dotted around this room - which do you choose?
This jar has a gorgeous metallic sheen to it; it stands on a shelf. Yes! The Astrolabe piece is inside, you take it gently out of the jar and silently slip out through the window. Hopefully the Heir apparent will not realize that you were the culprit, but even if he does - you will be long gone.
The design on this jar suggests Greco-Roman influence; it stands in an open cupboard. The piece is not inside; you chose the wrong jar! This is taking too long. You hear voices just outside the door as you finally find the piece inside the golden glazed jar and make for the window. You just manage to drop from the edge just as someone comes in at the door - that was close!
This beautiful porcelain jar might be Chinese; it stands on a table. The piece is not inside; you chose the wrong jar! Panicking, you fumble with the other jars, dropping one on the floor where it smashes. You finally find the piece inside the golden glazed jar. Alerted by the noise the guards burst into the room just as you slip out of the window! You are chased through the streets but manage to take refuge in the Hidden Ones Bureau.
Outcome
The Hidden Ones are pleased; you managed to blend in so well it is unlikely that the Wali Al Ahd will suspect you, even once he notices the Astrolabe piece is gone.
You may have spoiled the Wali Al Ahd's dinner party, but at least you were not arrested. Perhaps next time you could ensure that things go according to plan.
The guards and the Wali Al Ahd will surely be on the lookout for you now, it may be necessary to keep a low profile for a while.
Mission Completed! You managed to find and take another piece of the Astrolabe, right under the Heir apparent's nose. You did well. You have collected another piece of the Astrolabe! As soon as you are ready, you can secure the next piece.
The Astrolabe
Harbiyah Bureau
The Bureau has received information that one of the Astrolabe pieces is in the possession of an expert in navigation at the House of Wisdom. Even if you're able to enter the building it is unlikely that he will easily part with such a treasure. Go there and retrieve it without fail.

Bad Timing
As you are hurrying towards the doors of the House of Wisdom you are stopped by a passing guard patrol. One of the guards catches hold of you, says he recognizes you and believes you might be wanted for a crime. When you deny this, the guard looks up at the House of Wisdom and asks what you are doing here, and what is in your bag. What do you say?
Tell him you are delivering a book for translation by the scholars. The guard nods his head and mutters that perhaps he might have been wrong about recognizing you. The guard patrol moves on and you are free to walk confidently into the House of Wisdom through the front door.
Cause a distraction and run. You slip from the guard's grasp and dash away in a full sprint. The entire patrol gives chase and they follow you for a surprisingly long way! By the time you make it back to the House of Wisdom it is late, you can only hope the scholars are still inside. Telling the guard you were delivering a book would have saved you time and energy.
Tell him you are here to pick up medicine for your sick father. The guard's eyes narrow as he suggests that the Bimaristan (Hospital) would be a better place to find medicine. He shouts for help and you are forced to run off and enter the House of Wisdom through a window. The House of Wisdom deals in knowledge, not medicine. This is not a great start to the mission.
The Scholar
Amongst the books and papers of the House of Wisdom, you find a scholar looking at astrological writings and star charts. He matches the description of the scholar you are looking for. You strike up a conversation and he explains that an Astrolabe indicates the position of the stars from a certain location. Smiling to himself, he asks where you should head if you needed to find a Ziggurat to use an Astrolabe.
The old fortress of Kurigalzu. You realize that you would be in the Ziggurat or terraced compound made of receding levels that served as a temples at Dur-Kurigalzu. He smiles at your answer, congratulating you on your quick wits and understanding of Baghdad's history.
Go to the Tomb of Zubaydah bint Ja'far. You suggest that it would be the Tomb of Zubaydah. He shakes his head and explains that the Dur-Kurigalzu ruins are those of an ancient Ziggurat, terraced compounds made of receding levels that served as temples. You hope your lack of insight hasn't hurt your chances of convincing him to give you the piece.
Go to the Tell Umar, in the ruins of Seleucia. You suggest that it would be the ruins of Seleucia. He shakes his head and explains that the Dur-Kurigalzu ruins are those of an ancient Ziggurat, terraced compounds made of receding levels that served as temples. You hope your lack of insight hasn't hurt your chances of convincing him to give you the Astrolabe piece.
The beginning of the end
Though fascinated by your interest in the astrolabe, he announces that he will not give you the piece that he has until you prove that you are a like-minded scholar, with a pure scientific heart. To test you he asks what you would do if you thought a scientific theory was wrong?
Tell him you would try to prove it by experiment and attempt to explain any difference in your results. The Scholar smiles widely and says you are indeed a like-minded Scholar - that was the perfect response. He hands over the piece of the Astrolabe immediately, and it is not long before you are on your way out of the House of Wisdom.
Tell him you would assume you had made a mistake as scientific theories are never wrong. The Scholar looks at you curiously and says that you are clearly no Scholar, but you do at least seem to be a good person. He goes to find the piece of the Astrolabe whilst lecturing you on the fact that scientific theories are often wrong. Once he has finally finished, you leave the House of Wisdom with your head spinning.
Tell him to give you the piece of the Astrolabe or you will burn his papers! The Scholar reluctantly hands you the piece of the Astrolabe, cursing under his breath as he does so. As you leave the House of Wisdom you hear him shouting for the guard - you had better leave the area quickly!
Outcome
Returning to the Bureau with the Astrolabe piece, you smile in the knowledge that this mission will cement a reputation for your cunning and stealthy ways.
You have the piece of the Astrolabe but getting it has proved trickier than you had thought. You are sure to face a few comments from the Hidden Ones for making hard work of a soft target.
An alarm was raised as you were leaving the House of Wisdom and the city guards will be on high alert. Though you have the Astrolabe piece, this sort of attention will make the work of the Hidden Ones more difficult for a time.
Mission Completed! You managed to collect another piece of the Astrolabe. The Hidden Ones depend on your continued success - you must not fail. You have collected another piece of the Astrolabe! As soon as you are ready, you can move to secure the next piece.
