Yrsa was a seer and healer in Avaldsnes, Norway in the late 9th century.
Biography[edit | edit source]
One day, Yrsa went to the longhouse of Hjorr Halfsson and waited, knowing she would be needed. Soon after, Hámund Hel-hide was brought into the longhouse heavily wounded from a wolf attack during a hunting trip, and she helped take care of him. After she was done, she left and waited among the stones outside. She met with the other Hel-hide, Geirmund, and told him that his brother would live and be cured, which relieved Geirmund.[1]
When asked if she would also take care of the injured Geirmund, she declined, saying there was no need because Geirmund's life strand was linked with his twin's, so long as one lived, so would the other. Before leaving, she gave two predictions. One, that they would reach glory before their deaths and two, that even though Ægir would swallow him and spit him out, it was time for Geirmund to sail the whaling routes.[1]
