Ujitawara (宇治田原町) is a city in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. During the Sengoku period, it was situated in Little Leaf Glade in the Yamashiro province.
History
By the 15th century, tea fields were planted due to the exceptional conditions of sunlight, soil, and humidity. In the 16th century, with the progression of the tea ceremony among the great lords, the influence of the town became more well-known especially due to the influence of Sen no Rikyū. The town and its fields were known to have the best tea varieties, which led to a newfound profession of tea merchants.[1]
In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke ventured into the city to find Tokugawa Ieyasu. There, Naoe caught sight of Ieyasu's men and Igan shinobi fighting against a battalion of Akechi soldiers. Aiding her fellow Igans, she defeated the Akechi warriors and then met with Ieyasu with Yasuke. There, the lord thanked them for their aid before discussing the next steps after Oda Nobunaga's death.[2]
Ieyasu also revealed that his associate and ally Hattori Hanzō will be coming and how he will be glad to see Naoe having survived the attack on Iga. While Naoe asked why he did not help Hashiba Hideyoshi, Ieyasu stated he will not contribute to the onslaught of wolves tearing each other apart and will be a fox waiting to ensure peace across the land. When Hanzō arrived, Ieyasu left with his Igan shinobi before Naoe went to talk with Hanzō. Alone, Naoe spoke to Hanzō and discussed the recent events, including her father's death.[2]
Hanzō offered her to leave the path her parents had behind but Naoe refused. Hanzō revealed that this path killed her parents and those boxes were trouble. When Naoe unsheathed her hidden blade and demanded answers, Hanzō told her to look for a kofun for the answers she sought. Before leaving, Hanzō admitted that if she ever pulled a blade on him, he will kill her next time.[2] While there, Naoe and Yasuke also established a kakurega in the area.[3]
