Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) are large-sized birds native to North America. Just like roosters, male turkeys have a wattle under their beaks.
Turkeys mainly live in hardwood forests foraging between the trees in search of acorns, nuts and berries. As Turkeys are omnivorous they also eat insects, small amphibians and reptiles. Turkeys are known for their distinctive gobble-gobble sounds they make.
History[edit | edit source]
During the 9th century, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir encountered turkeys roaming the wilds of Vinland when she went there in search of Gorm Kjotvesson. When approached, male turkeys defended themselves by attacking her.[1]
Eivor also encountered a turkey named Arne on her travels through Vinland and helped him return to his owner.[2] She later came across Arne and his owner in Nyhofn, together with the rest of the Toothbreakers.[1]
During the American Revolutionary War, the Colonial Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton regularly encountered turkeys in his travels through the Frontier.[3]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

In Assassin's Creed III, Ratonhnhaké:ton can find a turkey around the grounds of the Davenport Homestead. If players input the Konami Code with the appropriate game system command keys, he will feed the turkey and it will receive a small Assassin hood, which is for cosmetic appearances only.
