The casing for a trip-wire bomb.

Trip-wire bomb casings were a component that was used in the crafting of bombs by Ottoman Assassins, that triggered an explosion when a guard or a civilian stepped on the wires which the finished bomb was set with.

As the wires needed to be planted into the ground, they took 3 seconds to arm, and were best used to eliminate roaming patrols, as well as proving useful when placed in a trap location. For instance, as some Templar Den captains fled when they spotted the Assassin Ezio Auditore, a lethal trip-wire bomb could be placed on their route back to their hiding place.

In terms of bomb-crafting, trip-wire casings could be used in conjunction with any gunpowder type or ingredient.

Trivia

  • Ezio and his allies were the only characters who did not trigger an explosion once they passed over a trip-wire bomb. Presumably, this could be explained with their experience of spotting and setting the bombs.
    • Due to this, civilians could set off a trip-wire bomb, disrupting Ezio's plans, which should have been taken into consideration whenever he placed one.
  • Trip-wire bombs also featured in the second stage of the Animi Training Program as an ability, though they are limited to dazing those caught in its effect for a short while.
  • A variation of this bomb type, called a trip mine, was used by Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton during the American Revolution.
