Thetford (Norse: Theotford) is a town in the county of Norfolk, England; formerly a town in the kingdom of East Anglia.
History
In the early 870s, Thetford, like the other East Anglian towns and villages, was one of those that were subjected to raids by the Vikings, in particular raiders from the clan led by Rued. Wynnstan, the reeve of Thetford, led the town in defense against the raiders, who took the nearby the village of King's Bury that housed the remains of the former King Edmund.[1]
