A Necessary Evil was a visual representation of one of Bayek's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.
Description
Bayek needs the essence of darkness, the remnants of the serpent of rebirth Apep.
Dialogue
Bayek traveled to the Apep Khat, the bones of the eponymous serpent, to gather the Essence of Darkness. Using Nena's sight, he was able to determine the essence's location. Her voice rang in his head.
- Nena: The vestiges of darkness. They are here in the grave of Apep the encircler.
He found the essence creating plumes of black smoke throughout the boneyard. He gathered the remnants.
- Bayek: True darkness seeps from this remnant of Apep.
As he inspected the serpent, he found a broken arrow of light amidst Apep's bones.
- Bayek: No! Could this be... a remembrance of the battle? Avenging light against the snaking darkness.
Bayek collected more remnants until the essence was concentrated in the strength necessary for the ritual.
- Bayek: This is enough. I will be glad to leave the world encircler at rest.
Outcome
Bayek gathered the Essence of Darkness from Apep's bones, and with it the power to destroy wicked ka.
