Sesha

Sesha was a monstrous snake of gigantic proportions, brought forth by the use of Isabel's Apple of Eden in 1520s' Cambodia. Named after the Hindu snake demigod often depicted as a many-headed serpent, many legends in the region spoke of a similar being. In one of the tales, it is said that Sesha will appear with his hatchlings at the "end of the world" and that they will give birth to a new kingdom where peace and harmony will reign.[1] Other stories, instead, spoke of fierce battles between a titanic warrior and a gigantic serpent,[2] though Sesha was almost never a threatening or evil deity in its depictions.[1]

History

In 1524, the creature attacked the members of an Assassin expedition to the Khmer Empire, bursting forth from the ground, though they managed to eventually drive it away in combat.[3]

Sesha was linked to the "Hydras", snakes corrupted by the Apple of Eden into resembling it. This fact led the Assassins to collect a few of these snakes for further study.[4] At a temple to the serpent god near Colubra's hideout, a pair of Furies performed a ritual using the Apple of Eden seeking to control Sesha. The Assassins diverted the ceremony, sacrificing the Hydras they had captured before to weaken the giant snake instead.[5]

After Colubra decided to sacrifice herself to destroy the Apple of Eden, Sesha emerged from the ground one final time, lunging at her. The Assassins managed to defeat the snake and allowed Colubra to enter the temple knowing that neither she nor the artifact would ever come out again.[6]

Behind the scenes

The exact nature of Sesha is difficult to ascertain through the text of the board game, so it is unknown whether it is a full-on hallucination, a snake that only seemed of monstrous size or even a snake that truly underwent alteration in proportions.
