Phaistos Theater

The Phaistos Theater was a theater in the ancient polis of Phaistos in Messara, on the Greek island of Krete.

History[edit | edit source]

Situated at the heart of the place, it was used for religious ceremonies, political assemblies, and shows involving bulls until the polis was destroyed by the forces of Gortyn. [citation needed]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Cult of Kosmos claimed the theater and turned it into their local base. When they set out to seek a certain disk, the key to the labyrinth below Knossos Palace, they captured and beat Ardos' old caretaker at the theater until he was rescued by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
