Marguerite Monvoisin

Marguerite Monvoisin was the daughter of Catherine Monvoisin, who was better known as the poisoner "La Voisin" ("The Neighbor").

Biography

As an assistant to her mother Catherine Monvoisin, also known as La Voisin, Marguerite aided her mother in her dealings, especially in the conspiracy later called the Affair of the Poisons, in which Madame de Montespan and Catherine sought to kill King Louis XIV. However, the authorities found out about the plan, arrested Catherine as the sole conspirator, and then executed her at Place de Grève. Carrying on their tradition, Marguerite carried on with the family business.

Legacy

After the affair, Marguerite had two daughters, Amélie Monvoisin and Valérie Monvoisin. Before her death, Marguerite dictated in a document that her fortune was to be passed down to the living eldest daughter or female in relation. However, her fortune was tied up due to Valérie's marriage and her fortune being controlled by her late husband. Meanwhile, Amélie wanted her independence from her sister. During the French Revolution, Amélie poisoned Valérie with the same family recipe and tried to frame family friend Georges Villiers-Segonzac in order to receive the fortune herself. However, the French Assassin Arno Dorian uncovered the truth and Amélie was rightfully imprisoned.
