François Mackandal was the former Mentor of the Assassins in the Colonial Carribean, and the teacher of Agate, by 1765 he was dead but his name was used by an aspirant Templar impostor named Baptiste.
Biography
Mackandal was a Houngan who is believed to have lived in Mali, Guinea, or Senegal before being sent to San-Domingue, modern Haiti, as a child. He escaped enslavement as an adult and became an infamous and charismatic Maroon leader and a Mentor of the Brotherhood. He was feared among the populace as a practitioner of Vodou "Black Magic". In truth, he utilized his mastery of poisons to prey upon the superstitions of the San-Domingue colonists. He created networks of slaves and Maroons and organized riots to destroy plantations and kill their owners. His enslaved contacts poisoned the food and water of their masters. In 1758, Mackandal was burned at the stake after being betrayed by a former ally.
