Forlì

Forlì was a city in the region of Romagna, and the home of Caterina Sforza. It is the main location of the DLC Battle of Forlì, and is a multiplayer map for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

History

The land around Forlì had been settled since the Paleolithic; the city's name comes from 'Forum Livii.'

By the 15th century, Forlì was ruled by Girolamo Riario, and was a part of Venice's coastal defense network.

In Assassin's Creed II

Ezio first travels to Forli in when he and Leonardo da Vinci are on their way to Venice. They only make a brief stop in Forli, as they are only there to catch the boat to Venice. When Ezio and Leonardo are about to get on the boat, they are refused entry as Ezio does not have a pass. Meanwhile, Caterina Sforza is stranded on a rock in a small lagoon and Ezio decides to save her using a gondola. On their way back to the port, Caterina exclaims that Ezio needs a reward for his work, so Ezio is given a pass to Venice and can freely go there with Leonardo.

Ezio later returns to Forli after he had obtained the Apple from Rodrigo Borgia, as he and the other Assassins meet in Forli to discuss where would be the safest place for the Apple. The Assassins decide to keep the Apple in Forli, but when Caterina Sforza leads Ezio and Niccolò Machiavelli into the city, they discover that something is terribly wrong, as the city had been invaded by the Orsi brothers.

Caterina orders Ezio to enter the city through a secret entrance, as the city gates were blocked off, and Caterina revealed that the city had been ivaded because of a map made by her husband, which showed all the locations of the Codex pages. Once Ezio gains entry to the city, he opens the gates for his fellow Assassins to enter through, and Caterina tells him that they must make their way to the Rocca di Ravaldino, the city's fortress. When they arrive at the fortress, a guard warns of another wave of enemy soldiers attacking the citadel. The Assassins decide to defend the fortress with the help of the city garrison, and after much fighting, they finally see off the enemy troops.

The Orsi brothers then approah the citadel and eventually tell her that her children are being held captive, and that unless Caterina hands over her husband's map and the Apple of Eden, they will be killed. Caterina is in deep distress and Ezio suggests that he should go and save her children. Ezio goes to the Romagna countryside and quickly saves Bianca, Caterina's daughter. She tells Ezio that her brother, Ottaviano, is being held at a lighthouse under the guard of Ludovico Orsi. Once Ezio reaches the lighthouse he scales it and frees Ottaviano, but Ludovico Orsi is nearby and Ezio soon assassinated him. Ludovico, on his deathbed, says that his Master gains his prize, because of him. Ezio is confused by this, but returns to Forli to tell Caterina the good news.

Forlì's architecture is characterized by comparatively small buildings, greyish stonework, and flat rooftops.

Rocca di Ravaldino

Main article: Rocca di Ravaldino

Rocca di Ravaldino was the heavily walled and cannoned fortress of Forlì, a citadel of strategic importance to the defense of the city. The Apple of Eden was briefly held here for safekeeping upon its recovery by the Assassins' Order. It serves as a Secret Location.

Trivia

• Caterina Sforza, who is featured in the game, was Countess of Forlì from 1480 until 1500. Her legendary quotes are featured in the Battle of Forlì DLC. In 1488, her husband, Girolamo Riario, was assassinated in a conspiracy led by the Orsi, a noble family of the city, and she and her children were made prisoners. Since the fortress of Ravaldino refused to surrender, Caterina offered to go to convince the Castellan, Tommaso Feo, to yield. The Orsinis believed the good intentions of Caterina because she left her children as hostages, but once inside the safety of the fortress, she let loose a barrage of threats and promises of vengeance against her former captors. When they threatened to kill her still-captive children, she exposed her genitals from the fortress walls saying: "Ho con me lo stampo per farne degli altri!" (I have the instrument to bear more!).
• Forlì was a very provincial town, but the Fortress of Forlì was one of the most fortified citadels in Italy, one that was protected by numerous, very large cannons. In Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, when the Orsi Brothers attack Forlì, Caterina Sforza is forced to order the cannons to fire at enemy targets inside the town walls. As a result, parts of the city were destroyed.
• It is in Forlì that the player can dye Ezio´s robes with the tints "Wetlands Ebony" and "Wetlands Ivory" to achieve the "Perfect Harmony" Trophy/Achievement.
• Forlìis one of the two locations that you can use the Flying Machine in Assassin's Creed II (considering you have obtained the Battle of Forlì DLC), and the only one where it can be used at any time.
