After failing three times to preventing the Toba Catastrophe, Juno and the others sought to save their race by means of smaller proportions. The forth solution was to internally change the bodies of their kind, to that of a machine that would survive the new, hostile world to come. In order to test this solution, they would need a living test subject. Aita volunteered to test the solution.

Within an instant, Aita's mind deteriorated as the the solution was tested. His body would survive, but his mind became brittle and catatonic. With enough will, he asked his wife to end his suffering, and Juno fulfilled by stabbing him in the chest, euthanizing him.
